Commercial Description:

A black beer with a nice brown head. The aroma nice and that of smoked malt. The flavor is soft and dominated by the smoked malt. A really nice beer for a late evening.

(Bottle 33 cl) Pitch black with a thick, creamy, sticky and retentive head - but a lovely appearance. Smoked and burned nose. Medium-bodied with very burned - almost tar-like - malts and a smoked touch. Rather discreet bitterness. A beer with a great personality. 020606

33 cL bottle. Pours utterly black with a chocolate creamy brown head. Thick roasted and smoked malty aroma, notes of chocolate and coffee. Medium bodied. Lovely thick chocolate, liqourice and coffee flavour. Thick smoke note into the bitter finish. A true classic and a masterpiece amongst Danish brews.

Dark black, maybe because off the artificial colouring stated on the label. Big, malty body. Smoke and coffee in the palate. Rather sweet. A good beer, interesting beer. (6/4/8/3/15)
However like most Baltic porters this is ment for keeping and will improve significantly with time. Thanks to the brewmaster who let me sample some of the 1988 version at the Danish beer festival I relaized how good this ber can become. The aroma was full of sweet licorice, chocoalte and coffee. It was sweet, complex, rounded and mature. perhaps the tobacco flavoured I sensed came from the brewmaster smoking pipe. The finish was mild and velvetty.

Bottle. Coffee, chocolate, hops: citrus, grass, brown-black, medium sweetness, medium bitterness, hint of salty, full body, creamy, average carbonation, medium finish and a little smoked in the flavour.

Black. Dark brown head. Roasted smell of smoke and tar, perhaps also a little sour. Overwhelmingly full taste of coffee and smoke. This one is a winner.

Bottled. Black opaque colour with meadiumsized brown head, which disappears quite fast. Roasted malt, licorace and toffee in aroma. Strong licorace and roasted malt in flavour along with strong black coffee.

Black colour with a huge creamy brown head. It has the typical stout aroma with notes of liquorice and smoke. The aroma is a bit like the smell of new-tarred fishing nets. Powerful flavour dominated by liquorice and smoke with notes of coffee. Nice bitter finish. This beer is nice on a cold winterday, but much too powerfull and heavy on a warm summerday. But be aware it can give you serious hangovers.
