Alldaydrinker (475), Norwood, Massachusetts, USA Jan 19, 2008 12 oz bottle. Pours an amber colour with a small off white head. Nose of caramel, floral hops, grain and touches of fruit. Initial taste of sweet malts, red fruits, grainy and earthy hops. Finishing with light roasted malts, nuts and bitter hop. Palate duration is average. Light to medium body. Dry finish. Some head retention and lacing of the glass.
DuffMan (2129), Calgary, Alberta, Canada Oct 30, 2008 GABF 2008. Copper amber in colour, palate is on the thin end, with a straightforward crystal malt structure with an interesting pears-in-syrup note and a mildly woody finish. Aside from the thinness, this was a decent amber with some good character. unclemattie (1714), Georgia, USA Sep 25, 2008 12oz bottle. Amber color, long lasting tan head. Aroma of caramel malt. Flavor of bready malt, Bitter finish. Kinda tasty for an amber. Cybercat (470), Georgia, USA May 4, 2008 Looks like a typical clear amber, but a little more appetizing than most. Aroma is strong and smoothly hoppy, not outstanding but still inviting. Flavor is rich and overwhelmingly malty - hardly any hop bitterness and exceptionally smooth. This is one beer worth savoring. gsmitty80 (550), Washington DC, USA May 4, 2008 This amber was fair. More flavorful than most ambers and a nice finish. Very average. Perm (142), Tryon, North Carolina, USA Mar 26, 2008 On-tap at Stone Soup, Landrum SC.
I tend to favor local beers whenever I get the chance; TC definitely qualifies as a local brewery for me. Of the three I sampled (Amber, Doppelbock, and Pilsner) at dinner, the amber was my least favorite; HOWEVER, it was stellar with my dinner entree: she-crab soup and Vietnamese duck spring rolls! The very quality that drove the beer down in my book -- too sweet on the tongue -- married it perfectly to the food.
