| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 10, 2006 Bottle. Pours a dark garnet with kind of tight tan head. The aroma is chocolate, faint almond, vanilla, and maybe some bread. The flavor is dark chocolate, vanilla bean, faint smoke, and a clean semi-sweet finish. However, a strange grassy taste develops as the temperature rises. Quite drinkable, but not superior by any means. ¾ (5009), Boulder, Colorado, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 25, 2006 Bottle. Creamy tan head, clinging to the side of the glass, with a moderately dark brown color. Very nice initial flavor, mostly some sweet tangy yeast, sweet chewy maple and wood flavored malts, with a lot of chocolate character as well, and even some bourbon and butter notes. Yeast is a little too pronounced when it reaches a proper temperature, and the yeast itself it a little too muddy and lactic. Decent. walleye (882), Sterling Heights, Michigan, USA

| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Aug 18, 2006 Dark amber color with a nice frothy head. Aroma is malty and roasted. Flavor is malty but less so than I would expect from the style. Balanced by a fair amount of biterness, not bad, but again not what I was expecting from the style. Finishes lightly sweet and lightly bitter. shendrix (478), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 8, 2006 Roasted nuts in the nose, a moderate head, and a deep amber color. A smooth dopplebock with a nice blend of cream and caramel, but with bit too much roasted barley--almost burnt barley--in the finish. A good, but not a fantastic, brew. sliffy (2012), Columbus, Ohio, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 27, 2006 Bottle thanks to CaptainCougar: Pours a dark brown with a big frothy head. Some decent lacing. Aroma, light chocolate (powdered hot cocoa mix). Flavor, lightly roasty, some chocolate, a light fruity bitterness. It’s very creamy, but light bodied. Somewhat dry on the finish. Pretty solid stuff. 1FastSTi (2591), Glendale, Wisconsin, USA
