Dry chocolate/raspberry extract/coffee bean aroma. Enjoyable flavor. It has lots of chocolate malt, apple-tart bock malt, and light pollen/stem hops. Might be a bit dry/roasty in the finish but pretty good stuff overall. notalush (2687), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Jun 30, 2006 Dark reddish brown pour, with creamy tan head - the aroma is kind of doughy and nutty, with a kind of acidic sourness to it - smooth mouthfeel, but a bit thin-bodied - flavor of roasted nuts, quickly washed out by a metallic taste that can most easily be described as sucking on pennies - not very good. apoptosis (1316), Long Island, New York, USA

Interesting bready, cocoa-filled aroma, with a slight sourness to it. For a doppelbock, it is surprisingly dry and ashy. The flavor is tart, sour and bitter, yet roasty and nutty. It’s very thin-bodied, though, with very little flavor and not very complex. Not a good idea of a doppelbock, and its just OK, nothing more or less. tupalev (2618), Waterloo, Ontario, Canada

Dark brown, still, very little brown tan head. Sweet sour malt and cola in aroma. Bad first impression tart, sweet malt. Finish: Nice dry, roasty. Only ok - average stuff. blankboy (3250), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Pours a cloudy dark reddish-brown with a spare diminishing off-white head. Aroma of caramel malt, chocolate, some roastness and brown sugar. Flavour starts quite tart and then some dark malt and a roasty bitter finish -- but that sourness is off-putting. Pretty light bodied for the style. Dissapointing, I didn’t care much for the taste. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 24, 2006 Pours a very dark mahogany brown with thin wisps of tan head. Sweet, authentic dark caramel malty aroma has some toasty brown sugar notes and a touch of noble hops. Body starts sweet and malty before a more muddled, slightly buttery, milk chocolate finish. An ok doppelbock and fairly true to style, but could use some fine tuning. HogTownHarry (4025), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada

Deep brown with a small rocky off-white head. Nice aroma - nutty roast malt, some cola, generic sweet syrupy grain, hint of sourness - ehh. Taste is sour, malty, sour fruit (rhubarb and cherry pits) - hints of chocolate and dry hops - bitter, sour linger and aftertaste, a little chocolate and fountain syrup - not great. Mouthfeel syrupy, acidic, tart and weak bodied - no thanks. acertain (249), Seattle, Washington, USA

It had a hint of sourness in the aroma, and a lot in the flavor. You could also pick up mollassas and other flavors, but it was so sour that I couldn’t drink it.
