| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 26, 2005 Pours ruby brown with a fluffy head. Smells of chocolate, coffee, tarte overripe fruit, spring flowers. Taste is very tarte with an average compliment of roasty chocolate dotting the taste buds. As the beer warms, some cognac like qualities pop up only to give way to more tartness. Finish is of hot cocoa and marshmellows. Ughsmash (4076), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 18, 2005 Bottled. Poured a clear deep garnet with a short yellowy-beige head. Dark fruits, chocolate, a little floral hoppage, and light coffee in the nose. Flavors were similar, but the hoppage seemed a bit stale. Smooth, but had some cola feel on the palate. Not bad, and certainly drinkable. ClarkVV (3578), Allston, Massachusetts, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 13, 2005 Bottle from Santa Suttree, consumed on 12/9/05. Pours a very dark chestnut with deep burgundy tints when held to the light. Head is light tan colored and consists of large bubbles. Smells roasty and vinous at first, prunes and a quite sour/acidic-like graininess. Light grassy hops provide some relief from the tartness. A touch of vanilla on the end as well. Taking my first sip and expecting it to be quite vinous and tart, I’m quite surprised to find it very light in the flavor. Roast, light chocolate, sweet toffee in the middle with prunes and roasted barley just on the edges of the palate. Initially a dirty/sandy blandish note builds on the finish, but I can’t pinpoint what it is. Though I have tasted it before in homebrews and scotch-style ales. Seems like some yeast biproduct. It passes, however, soon enough. Moderate, lightly spritzy carbonation keeps the texture fairly loose and lightly watery. Body is medium. Finishes fairly quickly with just some light, oily roast lingering and some earthy barley notes. Drinkable, with no alcohol apparency. No sediment, yet it is somewhat hazy. Head is well-retained. It’s sweet, malty and fruity with a touch of caramel and a slight sourness. Medium to full bodied and smooth. NachlamSie (1650), Tennessee, USA
