Bottle pours black with little to no aroma. Flavor is more caramel and malt flavor than anything else. Really a below average brew.

From bottle. Sweet malt aroma with a bit of toffee and Twizzlers. Can’t measure up to a German doppelbock but it’s sweet with some depth of aroma. No hops. Dark brown, not quite black, with thin light tan head. Medium watery body with medium-high carbonation. Starts sweet with lots of malt flavor. Has a tangy taste to it once the sweetness dissipates, maybe they added sugar. Mild nutty bitter finish with the one-dimensional malt sweetness. After is a bit off.

Wow, a very nice looking doppelbock. It actually looks like stout or porter. Very sweet fruit aroma. Some caramel malt aroma as well. A very nuanced aroma that is very pungent. The sweet dominates the aroma. I wish I was able to smell the smoke or roast a little more as some of you have. The beer is a little too sweet for me. Slight roast, with some sweet. The roast actually mixes well with the sweet, but again there is that overly annoying sweet flavor that I don’t like. Slight chocolate flavor as well. This beer has some great flavors, but AGAIN too sweet for me. I wish it were a bit creamier. Overall, decent brew, but not one of my favorites. Single 12 oz. at Greens Buford Highway

Pint @ Tyler’s Apex. Good aroma, smoke, roast malt, chocolate, minor fruit. Blackish orange color, OK head with spotty lace. Bitter roasty flavor, Lite body, thin smooth mouthfeel, bitter finish. Liked it, very drinkable, Aroma favorite part, little things dancing around with it.

2009 tap. what a wonderful doppelbock! beautiful tangy malt aroma and a flavor of malted barley, alcohol sweetness, and perfect complexity, this beer competes well with the world market. well done.

12 ounce bottle - $1.69 at Total Wine & More in Kennesaw, Georgia. Appearance: Pours a clear, dark brown body with some slight reddish hues and a lean, off-white head. Smell: Roasty, cocoa-minded nose with lesser notes of dark pumpernickel and dried fruits (with a very background, very thin vein of curious tartness). Taste: Dark maltiness with tastes of toasted dark bread, a dash of cocoa, a touch of dry caramel, and even a hint of moderately roasted grain. Slightly sweet, though considerably less than most doppelbocks. Fruit flavors of raisins and plums. A small twinge of suspect acidity makes me think this could possibly be in the very early stages of infection, but, as it’s not obtrusive and barley noticeable, let’s just pretend it never happened. Spicy, slightly earthy hops with a mild, restrained bitterness. Splash of cola in the latter half. Finishes malty and dry. Mouthfeel: A hair above medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Drinkability: It’s not your typical doppelbock, with its somewhat unconventional use of chocolate and roasted malts, though I’m kind of digging that. I still fear an onset of infection would’ve been the future for this particular bottle, and, regrettably, I see no "born on" dating, so maybe stick to draft with this one.
