Pours a ruby copper with a one finger fizzy tan head. The nose is malty, grainy, mildly chocolaty, peaty, earrty, no hop character. The flavor is a tad metallic, malty, crisp, a tad thin, grainy, peaty, raisin, vegetal. The palate has a mild crisp dryness.

Pours a rich deep brown with a thick tan frothy head. Nose is a hint of malt. Taste is rich and chocolatey with a nice malt presence. Body is fully and creamy. A nice beer to be sure.

Burgundy pour, solid cream colored head that stuck around nicely. Roast malt and humid smelling. Mostly malt, caramel, some mild red fruit and raisin. A definite creaminess to it. Didn’t really get any coffee out of this. On the light end of medium body. Was fairly surprised by this one, drinkable, I enjoyed it. There is a different bottle now, which maybe means there is a different recipe, I thought this was better than rated here.

Much more watery than a doppelbock should be. Roasty, chocolate malt flavor. Some strange acidity did not help this beer. Lightly bitter finish. Light carbonation. Reasonably drinkable. Mild and weak overall.

Taste 8/8 Bottle (no best by). Looks: Black cherry body, thick lacing head. Aroma: Caramel, mild yeasty must, roast and mocha. Taste: Thin to medium body, full roast, mild mocha, mild fruit in the background. O.K.

The aroma is very chocolaty with toasted malt and cream. The appearance is brown with a disappointing head. The flavor is like the aroma but also bitter. The palate is thin but very smooth. Overall I like it.

Ruby amber with a small white head. malty, sugary nose. Very lagery flavor for a dopplebock ... a bit watery, too. Smooth but mind and underwhelming. Meh.

On tap at Stone Soup, Landrum, SC I tend to favor local beers whenever I get the chance; TC definitely qualifies as a local brewery for me. Of the three I sampled (Amber, Doppelbock, and Pilsner) at dinner, the Doppel (excuse me, DOPPLE)bock was my favorite. It served as a stand-alone dessert after a great meal, but would pair nicely with good chocolate and ice cream, for certain. It would also be a winner with anything blackened (catfish, even). Not too sweet, not too bitter, a good balance. Definite coffee notes abouind. A nice, oily finish stands out in my memory.
