The palate has a mild crisp dryness. Panzuriel (995), Westerville, Ohio, USA

Taste is rich and chocolatey with a nice malt presence. Body is fully and creamy. A nice beer to be sure. timsilvia32 (447), from Michigan now in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 27, 2008 Burgundy pour, solid cream colored head that stuck around nicely. Roast malt and humid smelling. Mostly malt, caramel, some mild red fruit and raisin. A definite creaminess to it. Didn’t really get any coffee out of this. On the light end of medium body. Was fairly surprised by this one, drinkable, I enjoyed it. There is a different bottle now, which maybe means there is a different recipe, I thought this was better than rated here. wcampbell (582), Central, South Carolina, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Aug 10, 2008 Much more watery than a doppelbock should be. Roasty, chocolate malt flavor. Some strange acidity did not help this beer. Lightly bitter finish. Light carbonation. Reasonably drinkable. Mild and weak overall. zappafan99 (463), South Carolina, USA

| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 9/20 | Apr 28, 2008 The aroma is very chocolaty with toasted malt and cream. The appearance is brown with a disappointing head. The flavor is like the aroma but also bitter. The palate is thin but very smooth. Overall I like it. RichJ7 (1175), Cullman, Alabama, USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Apr 18, 2008 Ruby amber with a small white head. malty, sugary nose. Very lagery flavor for a dopplebock ... a bit watery, too. Smooth but mind and underwhelming. Meh. Perm (151), Tryon, North Carolina, USA

I tend to favor local beers whenever I get the chance; TC definitely qualifies as a local brewery for me. Of the three I sampled (Amber, Doppelbock, and Pilsner) at dinner, the Doppel (excuse me, DOPPLE)bock was my favorite. It served as a stand-alone dessert after a great meal, but would pair nicely with good chocolate and ice cream, for certain. It would also be a winner with anything blackened (catfish, even). Not too sweet, not too bitter, a good balance. Definite coffee notes abouind. A nice, oily finish stands out in my memory.
