| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Aug 6, 2007 Thanks to Suttree for trading this to me. I can’t figure out all of the low ratings for this beer. Pours a dark amber with a small head. Aroma is caramel malts, light roast and nuts. Flavor does have a slight sourness to it but it is not distracting. Roasted malt, maybe some light molasses. Body is a tad thin but overall I found it pretty enjoyable. realale420 (399), west covina, California, USA

Aroma was toffee, chocolate, roast with some sourness. The flavor was slightly sour with some dark malts and lager yeast. PorterPounder (3138), Tallahassee, Florida, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 22, 2007 Chattanooga, Tn. - Riverside Spirits, 12 oz bottle. Dark, ruby red pour, sticky, khaki colored head that leaves good lacing. Sweet, molasses like aroma with hints of rasiins and alcohol and brown baked bread. Flavor is accordingly sweet with molasses, raisins, a hint of alcohol, hints of licorice. Thickish, chewy mouthfeel. Would make an excellent winter warmer. Best I have had from Thomas Creek thus far - a hit and miss brewer for sure. Braincage1 (139), Cary, North Carolina, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 8/20 | May 4, 2007 bottle. Nice brown mollasses color with a lasting light tan head. Some sweetness in the aroma mixes with light nut and coffee notes makes for a decent combination. The flavor hits pretty hard - coffee but mostly a strong sour bitter grape characteristic that sadly hangs around for a long time. Never tried a Dopplebock but it wasnt an easy finish like it says in the description. bfeldmann (1042), Wilmington, Delaware, USA
| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 9/20 | Apr 17, 2007 Thanks to eagle for this one. Poured a brown color with okay head. Aroma was of lightly roasted coffee and something else i was having trouble picking up. Flavor was of coffee and something very very bitter. Have to agree with eagle missed the style completly, could be the dumb low alcohol law in SC. eaglefan538 (2369), Wilmington, Delaware, USA
| 2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Apr 15, 2007 Bottle courtesy of Shag/Clash. Poured a brown color with a tannish colored head, fairly generous. Aroma of coffee and nuts, light roast. The flavor was off coffee, bitter rancid nuts, roastedness, very astringent, hardly a lager or any doppelbock action going on here, more like a bad stout. Mouthfeel was medium to slightly heavy for the style, yet acidic, poorly attenuated. Ehhh, poor South Carolina and all those states with caps. Geez, you can’t do a doppelbock with that cap. (No dark fruits at all, though, no breadiness, nothing resembling a doppelbock.) Thanks for this one, Matt! shrubber85 (2920), Wallhalben, Germany
| 1.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 3/5 | 2/10 | 2/5 | 4/20 | Mar 17, 2007 Bottle. A metallic sour milk malt aroma (this seems to be the typical aroma of this brewery - smells the same as their multi-grain). Dark brown with small head. Funky taste - Sweet-Tart(tm) and sour milk malt flavor (I also concur with unclemattie’s description). Thought I’d give this brewery one more chance but they let me down again. A bad lager - no doppelbock characteristics at all.
