This was the beer I had on the sofa watching the early election returns of the 2004 elections (Bush v. Kerry), and it provided an all-around mellow, "East Coast" hoppiness, with a lovely caramel complexion, broadly toasty notes, yet a gentle citrus presence. Yellow-amber-orange. Good palate, slightly sweet, a bit thick. Not great, not super-complex, and I could understand how someone who loves West Coast varieties might pooh-pooh this as a lesser cousin, but it does a good job as a session beer, being clean, well rounded, and enjoyable. legion242 (1588), Richardson, Texas, USA

It sorta tasted as if the hops had been roasted or something. Just a lot of strong burnt flavors and not what I would expect from a Pale. Walt (2289), Chicago, Illinois, USA

| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Aug 17, 2004 A fairly reasonable APA, but, with an odd rubbery edge to the aroma and a shortage of hoppy bite. This came over to me as pleasant enough, but a bit nondescript. Why are so many US breweries coy about alcohol content? Cask, GBBF 2004.

| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 4/5 | 8/20 | Aug 15, 2004 Sweet caramelly nose with hints of citrus. Transparent copper color with a very quickly dissipating off white head into oblivion. Start is kind of watery, finishes very roasty and smoked. This is odd, and I am not a big fan of it at all. This makes the Tremont I just had seem high quality. I really dont get a whole lot of hops in this guy. Dorwart (1831), Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Aug 9, 2004 Nice large head of fine, creamy bubbles. Low carbonation with good lacing. Delightfully hoppy aroma with a bit of orange and salt hay. Color is a golden orange with good clarity. Flavor is a little thin and slightly metallic but mellows out quickly to a smooth easy drinking brew. More hops presence and balanced very well with the malt. Finish is hoppy and only slightly bitter. Bit of grapefruit in there also. A good, clean pale ale. maeib (4775), Wootton, Northampton, Northamptonshire, England
