Commercial Description:
HOP MEADOW INDIA PALE ALE. The American cousin of our ESB. This pale ale was originally brewed in 19th century England to survive the long ocean voyages to their troops stationed in India - hence the name India Pale Ale. To keep the beer from spoiling during these four- to six-month odysseys, they produced a stronger, more generously hopped ale. Our creamy IPA emphasizes traditional West Coast Chinook and Cascade hops to yield a hophead's delight of a brew: just-right complexity that's not too sweet - or over-the-top with hops.

Cask, GBBF 2007. Hazy brown with a small head. Aromas are toffee malts with spicy pine. Flavours are caramel malts with resinous bitter, green pine. A good bitter IPA.

Cask gravity at GBBF 2007. Hazy amber, lasting beige head. It’s one of the maltier IPAs I’ve had today and it’s interesting, got some cereal character. Good grapefruit, a little thin somewhere. Very hoppy and actually a decent IPA if a tad unbalanced.

A Mes rate: Gravicask at GBBF. Amber colour with an off white head. Sweetish aroma with some lovely dusty hops. Hoppy again in the flavour with slight notes of caramel and malt. A little too resinous but it’s still very drinkable. Late bitterness makes it very moreish. Pretty tasty.

Cask at Great British Beer Festival ’07. Hazy copper amber. Unusual and appealing aroma with honey, pine and bread crust. Strong and rather dominant hoppy taste doesn’t quite deliver the expected complexity.

Solid and sessionable IPA, neither particularly hoppy nor malt-heavy. Lacking the kind of citrus bite I crave in this ungodly hot weather, there’s still a nice piney backbone that contrasts well with the malt smoothness. Refreshing but not overly memorable.

orange, copper in color with minimal carbination, smell is hops, somewhat musty, and some pine. taste is hops, a somewhat bitter taste, and malts. an okay brew but nothing that really makes it. maybe a bad bottle?

Pours a cranberry red color with a thick but diminishing offwhite head that leaves nice lacing on the glass. Good aroma of resinous, piney hops with a toasted malt presence. The flavor is solid and well-balanced, the hops are resinous and piney, strong but not too much, there is enough toasted malt to provide balance with the hops, it finishes with bitterness and a burnt wood feeling. The body is light to medium with a creamy texture and moderate carbonation. This is a solid IPA.

This is a very nice example of the style. All kinds of pine in the aroma. Pours a cloudy honey color with an off-white head that laces well and hangs on for the distance. Taste has hops all throughout, with hints citrus in the front end. The hops don’t overwhelm you with their bitterness either....but they’re in there.
