Commercial Description:
HOP MEADOW INDIA PALE ALE. The American cousin of our ESB. This pale ale was originally brewed in 19th century England to survive the long ocean voyages to their troops stationed in India - hence the name India Pale Ale. To keep the beer from spoiling during these four- to six-month odysseys, they produced a stronger, more generously hopped ale. Our creamy IPA emphasizes traditional West Coast Chinook and Cascade hops to yield a hophead's delight of a brew: just-right complexity that's not too sweet - or over-the-top with hops.

Bottle, a dark caramel looking pour with a small head. The aroma is some hops but also some malt. The taste is bitter almost earth flavored. Not enough balance to this beer, the hops are just there. A bit bitter for my taste. Would not buy again

Pours nice with tannish head; cloudy with a hope particle noted - nice. Smells of IPA hoppy with some sweet floral undertone. Tastes medium bitter for crafty IPA and finishes clean and light. Good. Tastes more "homebrew" than commercial, which is nice.

sample on 6/5/08, rating from notes. beautifully balanced IPA... solid hop aroma... floral, citrus and earthy hops. somewhat sticky on the palate. falls apart a bit on the palate and becomes a more average IPA. Good bitter finish... above average overall given the wonderful aromas and appearance.

Very pleasantly surprised. Promises to be a "hop-lover delight". It was. Real dark red, clear, and spicy hop flavor proceeds to a nice bitter resin finish. Compares very favorably to other higher profile IPAs, and would certainly buy again.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy amber with lots of floaties and an average size diminishing off-white head. Mild aroma of resiny hops and not much else, but I like it. Mild but pleasant piney hop flavour backed by sweet malt -- it’s simple but it’s well balanced and I dig it. Decent bitter finish. Medium bodied, well carbonated. Nothing spectacular or anything but the more I drank this the more I liked it, I would buy this if it were available locally.

Pours a dark amber with a thin white head. Big malt aroma, with lots of grapefruit pine hops. Malty sweet taste with lots of hop bitterness. Finishes with a nice citrus bitterness. Solid big IPA.

Pretty amber color with a thin white head. Typical American hop aroma; notes of grapefruit and some pine from the chinooks. Light bitterness followed by pleasant citrus flavors which are accompanied by some crystal malts. Drinkable, but certainly not one of the best IPA’s on the market.

My kind of IPA, big malt backbone, plennty of Cascade and Chinook hops to layer that IPA goodness we all love, A great session IPA with good bite. Recommended.
