KAME (132), California, USA Jun 17, 2007 Pours a rosey amber with a creamy off-white head. Aroma is a citrusy boquet, and actually not too bad. Flavor is a bit one dimensional with a very forward piney hoppy bitterness throughout. It comes on strong and stays there until the finish. It was alright, but there definitely better offerings available.
blipp (683), Grand Island, New York, USA Aug 21, 2008 Bottle. Pours clear red brown with a thin beige head. Aroma has orange, caramel, and candy sugar. Well balanced flavor, with a nice sweetness and some bitter floral hops. Nice lasting bitter finish. Homebrewerguy (238), Oil City, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 15, 2008 Pours dark for an IPA but has little head, aroma of malt and citrus hops, appears balanced during the tasting but with a lingering hop presence that I find a bit too strong (not a big IPA fan for that reason), Overall a nice IPA alobar (612), Allentown, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 10, 2008 Not much head on this one, but a fine floral/ hops aroma. Cloudy deep amber color. Taste is complex with a fine hops taste on the backend. Citrus and hops dominate the taste. GAManiac (265), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Aug 10, 2008
Pours deep copper, one of the darkest IPAs I’ve seen, with a small off-white head that dissipates to a collar quickly leaving sporadic lacing. Aroma is earthy, grassy and pine smells, with a hint of citrus hops. There is a big caramel malt presence in the nose as well. Taste has a strong citrus hop presence up front before the caramel malts kick in. The finish has a bit of pine hop bitterness with a hint of earthy spice as well. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and sticky with the lingering pine hops. Despite the decent hop presence, I would term this as a balanced, fairly malt-forward IPA. Enjoyable. MrManning (1429), London, Ontario, Canada Aug 8, 2008 Bottle thanks to JJPM74! This IPA poured a decidedly dark copper and frothed up upon the pour. A solid, well structured frothy head that leaves tonnes of lace. The nose is quite caramel forward with bread crust, dark fruit, spices, a bit of pine and grapefruit like hops. Piney, grapefruit pith like hop flavours are upfront, with floral spices, but not too assertive, as this IPA focuses more on the caramel malts and fruitcake like flavours. Alcoholic and well structured. Seems like an ESA to me. Thanks for the beer John, as well as the new state! :)
