Commercial Description:
The Thomas Hooker Imperial Porter is a full-bodied dark lager which draws its roots to the stronger porters of 19th Century England which would evolve into today’s stronger stouts. The porter derives tremendous complexity from the use of 8 different malts blended to balance sweet, caramel flavor with the coffeeish taste supplied by a judicious use of dark roasted malts. This brew is generously hopped with German and American hops that come to life as the beer is allowed to warm to its ideal temperature of 58-60 degrees. A great brew to add that holiday warmth and cheer to any beer lover’s winter. CHEERS.

Bottle. Poured a blackish-brown color with a nice light-brown head. Aroma was very coffee-like. Nice full mouthfeel. Flavor was a nice blend of chocolate malt and coffee. Not as much alcohol taste as I would have guessed. Solid beer. Thanks, Cottrell for the trade.

500 ml bottle. Pours very deep brown with a frothy, light tan head that recedes to a very thin creamy film. Light but pleasant aroma of roasted malt and caramel. Flavor was lightly roasted malt with some chocolate with some light hops bitterness at the finish. Quite smooth, almost creamy actually. Well crafted and very enjoyable.

500ml, 2006 vintage, thanks to bmartin for this. swing top made a very loud pop! and this pours very heady (over carbinated), dark brown with huge tan head. nose has spicy hops, smoke, toffee, and baker’s chocolate. flavor is slightly meaty, dark fruits, and milk chocolate. very tasty. finishes semi-sweet and dark fruity. alcohol is well hidden. mouthfeel is slightly watery but to style. carbination appeared high at first but after decanting and it actually is low. again, very tasty.

Pours out a dark brown color with a nice tan head. Aroma is that of your better Porters. Flavor is very nice with nice notes of coffee and roasted malts. Overall this is a very nice brew. Cool bottle as well.
