Commercial Description:
The Thomas Hooker Imperial Porter is a full-bodied dark lager which draws its roots to the stronger porters of 19th Century England which would evolve into today’s stronger stouts. The porter derives tremendous complexity from the use of 8 different malts blended to balance sweet, caramel flavor with the coffeeish taste supplied by a judicious use of dark roasted malts. This brew is generously hopped with German and American hops that come to life as the beer is allowed to warm to its ideal temperature of 58-60 degrees. A great brew to add that holiday warmth and cheer to any beer lover’s winter. CHEERS.

1 Liter bottle via trade with CaptainCougar and shared at our Mesa Gathering - Pours a dark brown color with a half finger thick light tan head. Very light spotty lacing. Aroma is chocolate, roasted malt, vanilla, and wood. Flavor was the same. Smooth mouthfeel. Medium body. My wife really liked this one. An excellent beer. Thanks Tom.

Bottle courtesy of IMtheOptimator: Poured a hazy slightly dirty yellow color ale with a huge foamy head with good retention and good lacing. Aroma of estery yeast and spices is quite dominant as well as some tropical fruit- like sweetness. Taste is spicier then I would have expected which might be from the spice mix use in this beer or from the yeast strain use in this beer. Body is quite full and alcohol is not discernable. I thought this was reasonably well done for the style and would mind having another taste of it.

Thanks to Goldtwins for the bottle! ’05 vintage I believe. Creamy chocolate and coffee aromas are very alluring. Deep brown with a medium tan head. Medium to full palate is very creamy. Creamy coffee with a good roasted malt profile. Light hops throughout offer a nice, light contrast to the fullness of the brew. Very well done.

Poured a deep, oily black with a foamy tan head. Aroma is sweet, malty and bready with a hint of flowers. Flavor starts out sweet, nutty with a heavy roasted malt flavor. Finish really transforms this beer. Coffee touches, caramel and toffee with a chocolate flavor and texture. Great beer, great brewer. Very impressive.

Cbkshubert brought this one to the Mesa Gathering also shared with Bucknaked. Had a sweet licorice porter aroma. Dark brwon body almost black with tan head. Had a good roasted nut flavor along witha mild sweetness. Smooth beer and left a raosted toast aftertaste on the palate. Thanks Craig.
