Commercial Description:
The Thomas Hooker Imperial Porter is a full-bodied dark lager which draws its roots to the stronger porters of 19th Century England which would evolve into today’s stronger stouts. The porter derives tremendous complexity from the use of 8 different malts blended to balance sweet, caramel flavor with the coffeeish taste supplied by a judicious use of dark roasted malts. This brew is generously hopped with German and American hops that come to life as the beer is allowed to warm to its ideal temperature of 58-60 degrees. A great brew to add that holiday warmth and cheer to any beer lover’s winter. CHEERS.

Pours thick and black with little head. Chocolate malt, coffee, dark fruit aroma. Coffee, chocolate, toffee taste. Very smooth, just a hair short of being a stout. Full bodied and complex, very good.

16.9 oz bottle. Dark brown with a fluffy tan head; thick lacing. Nose is chocolate, prunes, peanut and brown sugar with a touch of tar. Creamy full body with a tang. Taste is mocha, licorice and burnt coffee. Black olive finish with more tar. Soild porter, a bit too bitter for me.

2006 bottle. Nice black color with a brown thick head. Aroma is of sweeter malts. Taste is much sweeter than I expected. Has a little coffee flavor with what seems to be licorice, brown sugar, and some chocolate. Leaves a nice aftertaste leaving me wanting more and more. This is one excellent brew. Good job!

Fancy swing top pint bottle with much thanks to Cletus. Pours decent enough... a nice tan head of foam over a thick and opaque dark brown body. Aromas are roasty and full with quite a bit of complexity to them. Already I’m thinking we’re off to a good start as I sit and sniff at it while I wait for it to warm a bit. Roasted malt, chocolate, dark fruit and a hint of citrusy hops. Flavor is very full and sweet as well and I find myself wondering why this doesn’t rate much higher. It has a big chocolate and dark fruit presence, a nice alcoholic warmth and plenty of balance to go around. This is darn fine stuff.

Bottle at Springslicker’s Fish Fry. Pours dark brown with a tan head. Fruity and vineous aroma. Mediunm bodied with average carbonation. Flavor of roast, acrid coffee, bitter chocolate. Strong tea notes on the finish. This was not that great. Bad bottle or past it’s prime?

From Cletus via trade. The pour is ultra dark brown with a light tan head. Spots of lace. The aroma is lots of roasted malts, a bit of dark chocolate and some coffee. The flavor is dominated by roasted malts and dry chocolate. A bit of vanilla and sugar comes through. Thin to medium bodied mouthfeel. Better at room temperature than with any chill on it.

Pours dark brown with minimal brown head. Aroma of roasted malts, cocoa and some coffee. Bittersweet dark chocolate, toasted malts and mocha flavors. Full body with minimal carbonation. Syrupy mouthfeel with a nice bitter finish.

Bottle courtesy of gunhaver. Pours a dark brown to black color with white-tan head. Aroma is sweet and malty with notes of milk chocolate, light coffee, brown sugar, caramel and generally malty goodness. Flavor is sweet and roasty as well with notes of coffee, chocolate, brown sugar, light notes of ripe dark fruit. Generally medium body with a pleasing malty finish. Nice porter.
