Commercial Description:
The Thomas Hooker Imperial Porter is a full-bodied dark lager which draws its roots to the stronger porters of 19th Century England which would evolve into today’s stronger stouts. The porter derives tremendous complexity from the use of 8 different malts blended to balance sweet, caramel flavor with the coffeeish taste supplied by a judicious use of dark roasted malts. This brew is generously hopped with German and American hops that come to life as the beer is allowed to warm to its ideal temperature of 58-60 degrees. A great brew to add that holiday warmth and cheer to any beer lover’s winter. CHEERS.

Big thanks to htsprint1 for sharing this baby with the League of Strange Beer Drinkers this month. Truly fine baltic porter (one of my favorite styles). Big roasted malt profile with it’s strong chocolate, coffee, ans caramel notes. big alcohol warming here. Nice smooth palate, despite it’s robust bitter hop presence in the aftertaste. Good!

Mahogany with a tan film & nice lacing. Aromas of chocolate, coffee & whisky. Flavor is somewhat hot & malted with a lagered persona. Additionally vinous & bitter late with a dirty mouthfeel. Interesting.

This is a great beer. I love dark beers especially porters. This porter is very smooth. I enjoy the coffee flavor in this beer. Definitely one of my best.

Pitch black pour with a nice creamy tan head. Very roasty aroma with a little coffee. I’m not smelling any chocolate. Very smooth body. Huge roast flavor without much else shining through.

Appreciated at the latest The LoSBD meeting: Dark brown with a firm and sustained brown head, this has a nicely blended aroma of roasted barley, caramel, chocolate, and bitter coffee (just like Mom used to make). Smooth. The flavor is roasted malt, caramel & toffee, rich coffee, and a solid hop bitterness. The finish is dry and warming. Nice.

2003 Vintage: Poured a very deep mahogany color. Aroma of creamy chocolate and roasted malt. Flavor of both milk and bitter sweet chocolate. More roasted malt. Some hops on the finish. Dry chocolatey finish.

A black appearance with a beige head. The aroma is full of chocolate and oatmeal. The flavor is quite dry and almost burnt with some dark chocolate, coffee, and roasted malt standing out. The finish is quite bitter. Perhaps this should replace the shitty breakroom coffee at work.

Big thanks to ClarkVV for this 2004 bottle. Deep dark mohagany brew that exploded onto my counter. Burnt toffee and rich roasted malts dominate the aroma with some espresso. This is tasty: smooth blend of malts that isn’t overroasted so as not to push out the other flavor such as the rich roasted malts and a chocolate coffee mixture.
