Commercial Description:
The Thomas Hooker Imperial Porter is a full-bodied dark lager which draws its roots to the stronger porters of 19th Century England which would evolve into today’s stronger stouts. The porter derives tremendous complexity from the use of 8 different malts blended to balance sweet, caramel flavor with the coffeeish taste supplied by a judicious use of dark roasted malts. This brew is generously hopped with German and American hops that come to life as the beer is allowed to warm to its ideal temperature of 58-60 degrees. A great brew to add that holiday warmth and cheer to any beer lover’s winter. CHEERS.

Swing top -- very unusual and cool for a US micro. Dark, dark brown with a firm pillowy head, slowly pock-marking itself with craters as the air collapses. The aroma is sweet and roasty like ice coffee. The flavor has a chocolate milk aspect, a hint of vanilla, cocoa bean, and a sweet but lightly bittering finish. Very, very nice. Excellent desert beer. A smooth, black velvet of a beer. A coffee-ish aroma. Textured maltiness with hints of antique leather and cigar store smokiness. Definitely a winter beer. Caramel and some chocolate lingers on. A completely pleasurable sipping experience!

2004 vintage--I’m not usually an American Porter fan, but a friend of mine picked up several liters of this for my as a Christmas present. Starts off with strong nutmeg and chocolate tastes and finishes off with a nice bitterness. Thanks to this brewery for bottling this amazingly rich beer in liter sized bottles.

This porter pours a dark brown, and leaves a thick tan head. It smells of brown sugar, dark chocolate, wafers, bread, and molasses. The taste is bitter citrus rinds, espresso, feel on the palate. The sweetness in the brew tastes like dark molasses, dark bitter sweet chocolate, dark roasted coffee, the taste is great. This brew finishes with some brown sugar sweetness, and some carbonation bite in this fantastic brew.

This is a great beer. I love dark beers especially porters. This porter is very smooth. I enjoy the coffee flavor in this beer. Definitely one of my best.

DANGEROUSLY drinkable for a 7.8% beer. Pours a very dark brown, almost black with a thin layer of head that left good lacing. Aroma is sweet chocolate, raisins, smoky coffee, and some underlying American hops. Flavor starts with a rush of sweet caramel, chocolate, smoky coffee, then turns sharply bitter, with a deep roasted character coming in, and some dark fruits, like figs and raisins soaked in molasses. Spectacular stuff, I haven’t had a miss from this brewery yet, and don’t expect to anytime soon.

2003 bottle courtesy of DYCSoccer17. I have been looking forward to this for a while...Dark opaque pour with very small tan head. Malts evident on the nose, also some hops. Burnt caramel and bittersweet chocolate to start. Definate coffee also. Wonderful hoppiness in the middle lending to the lingering bitterness. Perfect mouthfeel, especially for this style. The complexity draws a smile to my face. This is a very very nice brew. I am glad that this bottle is so big, so I can enjoy every last drop. Thanks bro!

Great big one liter swingtop bottle for only 5 cents deposit, can't beat that, 'specially if your a homebrewer. Dark brown, blackish color with a dark tan head that lasts for a while, with good lacing too. Aroma is full of strong rich roasted and coffee flavors with a nice floral hop crispness to it. Burnt, roasted tastes up front with some notes of caramel and licorice. Body is quite heavy. The strong flavor quickly gives way to a subtle but assertive citrusy hoppy aftertaste, that covers the slightly higer percentage ABV nicely.
