The aroma is richly roasty and toasty. It drinks with a creamy consistency and delivers with the anticipated roasted malt, caramel, and a light nuttiness. Pretty well balance beer right down the alley of what you’d expect for a beer labeled "Irish Ale" ... give me some of this with a bowl of potato soup or a nice corned beef sandwich. Pours brownish red with a tan head.
Quite a bit of caramel character in the nose with a smidge of roast. There is a suprising amount of herbal hop aroma here as well
The flavor is pretty pedestrian. Caramel with some roasted bitterness.
High carbonation comes of prickly or even almost harsh. I can get the med/full body here. It woud be better with less carbonation, I think.
Still, a decent enough, sessionalbe, beer. JAF737300 (797), Tampa, Florida, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 29, 2007 Pours deep red amber. Notes of roasted nuts and malt. The malts show a sweetness on the palate with a bit of an earthen finish. Nice ZRed. RblWthACoz (963), Brooklyn, New York, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 29, 2007 Pours a clear darker amber ruby. Nose is metallic and kind of nut-like. Flavor is deep and consistent. Carries a real earthy and slightly leafy character. On the end there is a sweet tone with a touch of light caramel to it. Feel is kind of sticky on the liquid and the bubble is low on the mouth. Overall very drinkable. Smooth and even and a good one to enjoy. pforei (338), USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Sep 27, 2007 On tap at Hop Devil. Red brown and orange color miixture. Sweet malt aroma. Taste is similarly sweet with a modicum of hops and a strong earthy (peat moss?) flavor. Not the type of beer to keep drinking one after the other. jcwattsrugger (5563), Florida and, New Jersey, USA

Taste is dark malt-smoky/roasty, some caramel sweetness (slightly burnt), flat/earthy hops with some bitterness. Right on style. Dryish finish. OK carbonation. cazort (419), Newark, Delaware, USA

However, there is not enough of the earthy complexity to the malt that I expect from this style. If I had not looked at the label and read the name, I would not have guessed that this was an Irish ale...it tastes more like a hoppier amber ale or some other more generic American brew. By the end of the bottle, the malt tastes funky, and a bit heavy and sweet. This beer was not bland, but it still has a lot of flaws. kp (8500), Woodstock, Georgia, USA

clear dark brown, lasting fine tan head, solid lace, dry carmel malt aroma, very rich dry carmel malt flavor, light lasting bitterness in the finish, not a lot of character but a good solid beer
