Commercial Description:
This traditional red ale gets its unique color from an interesting blend of pale, caramel and roasted malts which promote a sweetness that’s then balanced with crisp, authentic English-style hops. A very unique and drinkable red that’s also favored by amber-lovers. And not only on St.Paddy’s day, but the other 364 days of the year as well.

12 oz bottle. Pours a clear dark garnet red body under a beige one finger fizzy and foamy head. Lots of visible carbonation. Nose is slightly sweet toasted and crystal malts with some light hoppiness. Flavor is dry toasted and lightly crackery malt with just a hint of bitterness on the finish. A lingering huskiness remains. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, just shy of creamy in texture were it not for the prickly nature of the carbonation. Overall, just about what you’d expect from an Irish Red. Quite full of flavor, but not in your face.

I wanted to like this more, but I just find it a tad anonymous. And I say this having started to get over my irrational bias against the style (after all, I used to love reds and ambers as a newb and am starting to come back around). So on the one hand, this lacks a recognizable hop crispness (despite the promo) but it also doesn’t knock you out with its malting. Honestly, just a bit watery.

A reddish auburn ale with a thick creamy lacing off white head. A lightly caramelly malt aroma, with light sulfur notes. In mouth, a classy red ale with malt, roasted nuts, and light hopping. No cloying butterscotch here. Bought in Willimantic, CT, Elm Package Store, Inbiernationale IV, May 2007.

Aroma of malt, yeast, and cardboard. Red amber color with a small off white head. Starts with light fruity malts. Finishes with a quick mellow hop bite.

Bottle - from sampler pack. Copper color. Very good. Full flavored. Roasty and hoppy. Not much malt flavor.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a deep reddish brown with a medium tan head that lasted through most of the glass. Light aroma of roasted malt, a touch of yeast, and a bit of hops. The falvor is very similar, light but pleasant with roasted malt, a touch of yeast, with some moderate hops bitterness at the finish. Pretty standard fare for an Iresh Ale.

On tap at Willimantic Brewing. Dark mahogany with a tan head. Lovely roasty/toasty sweet malt nose, light caramel and earthy hops. Lightly roasted malt taste, mildly nutty bitter. None of the metallic flavors I find common in this style. Good stuff!
