TheCheeseMan (538), Saint Cloud, Florida, USA Aug 19, 2007 Courtesy of boboski, what a tasting this has turned into. Pours a rich chestnut-mahogony color. Aroma is malty sweetness, seems to be some pie spices mingling with the hints of caramel. Flavor was balanced, providing us with a great example of what a dopplebock should be. If I could buy more of this, I would probably drink as much as my liver would allow. mgumby10 (1844), Jupiter, Florida, USA Aug 17, 2007 Pours a dark brown with a small light tan head. Big, thick caramel aroma, dakr sweet malts, and mild dark fruits. Some oatmeal raisin cookie really comes to mind, maybe a little molasses. Great aroma. The flavor was much the same, although the dark fruit really showed its face in the flavor. The caramel, and oatmeal were there too, but more in the finish and background. The aftertaste was rich, and fruity. Really nicely balanced brew. Awesome. wilderthanyou (409), Guelph, Ontario, Canada Aug 16, 2007 Pours a dark dark brown with a think beige film. Aroma of malts, caramel, cream, and faint notes of smoke. Big bold flavours of malts, dark chocolate, and a dark licorice finish. Nice smooth but full mouthfeel, perfect carbonatin. All around a top notch beer. TheEpeeist (1429), Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 4, 2007 33.8 oz bottle. Nose of smoky caramel and raisin. Dark brown with a slim tan head. Licorice and brown sugar; pruney with an acidic bite. Hints of walnuts. Medium body. Screams out for some sausage. Solid. bobaidan (358), Farmington, Connecticut, USA Aug 3, 2007 Pours dark brown with a dark head. Aroma is caramel, coffee and a touch of bread. Flavor is much like the nose, but more roasted flavors are present. Just the right amount of hop bitterness rounds out the flavor nicely. A roasted almost smoky flavor lingers. Really good. RCL (1443), Waltham, Massachusetts, USA Jul 31, 2007 Pours an almost black brown with a creamy dark beige head. Aroma just has a tiny hint of spices. It almost flirts with porter in style. Quite substantial. Makes me wish I had venison. crazyvin (1245), New York, USA Jul 17, 2007 Poured a deep reddish-brown with a tan head which had minimal lacing. Aroma was a wicked mix of smoke, roasted coffee, and bread. Flavor was similar but was complemented by a subtle nuttiness in the dry finish. Certainly a creamy finish. DannyP (29), Connecticut, USA Jul 12, 2007 pours a nice dark color with a bit of a tan, quickly dissipating head.
Nutty, with plenty of malt flavor. My favorite of the Hooker brews so rar.
