Thanks to Zathrus for this brew. Pours dark ebony with a smooth beige head. Rich and a soft roast flavor, hints of smoked malts, dark chocolate, and some dark fruit notes. Very smooth palate with some earthy notes in the finish.

Poured a dark brown color with an average frothy brown head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate to heavy roasted caramel malty aroma. Medium to heavy body. Medium to heavy roasted bittersweet flavor with a medium to heavy bittersweet finish of moderate to long duration.
This is a standout beer that is excellent for style

Nov 27, 2008 Bottled. Pours a nice dark black w/a smallish not insubstantial head. NIce classic malty-choco-bread doppelbock aroma. Taste is nice and malty with a bitter kick at the end. Worth your while.

Deciding to open something new I found this in the cellar. Popping it open I was greeted with an interesting take on a doppelbock. This was a great beer to try though I don’t think I’ll be picking up another one unless I run across it on clearance somewhere on a road trip.
<br /><br />
<b>Aroma / Appearance</b> - A half finger dirty white head swirled fluidly around the tulip glass. The smell of musty books, cherry pits, wet earth and black coffee were the whole of the experience. A little weaker than expected I thought it would have just a bit more richness.
<br /><br />
<b>Flavor / Palate</b> - Creamy with a dry bitterness the coffee start yields to light smoke and hazel. Afterwards come a malty finish. Light on the tongue for the style I feel that could have been just a bit thicker. Nonetheless it was a nice drink for a cool fall evening.

Poured into a chalice a nice dark brown color, nice carbonation, an an amazing creamy one-finger plus tan head, which lasted forever, now some nice little islands and sticky lacing throughout the drink. The nose is of sweet malts, vanilla, and toffee/caramel. The taste is sweet and slightly bitter malts, nice touch of vanilla, lots of toffee/caramel. Medium body, smooth/thick with a nice chewy body. Very drinkable, man this is an awesome Doppelbock, probably the best I’ve had to date, quite different, highly recommended.

Oct 25, 2008 Bottle thanks to jjpm74. Pours a dark brown with small brown head. nose had heavy roasted malt. Flavor is light coffee, roasted malt and bitter sweet chocolate. Texture is as smooth and creamy with chocolate, I know I said it had that already, but it rocks. This is the downright prime example of this style if there was one.
