I’m not a big fan of doppelbocks in general but this was different. Poured dark brown with a nice full tan head. It doesn’t seem like a doppelbock. It had a hoppy/fruity aroma. The flavor was much like cherry. Doppelbocks to me are meaty. This wasn’t. Fruity and a little sour. Good but not what I recall from other doppelbocks. Porterish. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 23, 2005 Nice deep brown in color, some scarlet accents when held up directly in front of a light. Head is persistent and foamy - almost looks like a sponge that was specially cut out and placed on top of my dimpled mug for this very purpose. Aroma is chocolate and roasted malts, some molasses, a little rye, and toffee. Flavor is damn chocolaty. Very rich. Rye malts and toasted almonds provide an unexpected, yet appreciated, surprise in the flavor. Aggressively composed body and conservatively hopped. Moderately high carbonation initially, and then a transition to the chewy, thick malts. Some alcohol warming on the throat with a simple, dry and tobacco-laden finish. This one is dangerously drinkable. One minute the top went "pop!" and shortly later, all I had left was lacing. Thanks to tpkenned for sending this New England hooker my way. Lingering finish on the tongue. Nice, first one of the day and probably the best. tronraner (1933), Seymour, Tennessee, USA

The aroma is clean and malty with some cream and some roasty notes. The flavor is slightly alcoholic with roasted malt, vanilla bean, and burned coffee. Pretty good. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Aug 2, 2006 Deep brown with a creamy brown head. Roasty malty caramel nose, a hint of smokiness - but just a hint. Flavor is baking chocolate and caramel over a creamy body. I am really starting to warm to doppels! pantani (1902), Salinas, California, USA

Aroma is corriander, fish, and subtle chocolate with an oxidized smell. It was hard to pick up on any big scents. Ruby body with a cream head. Taste is chocolate, raspberries, crystal malts, wheat. Pretty good beer, just not Top 50 material. jeffc666 (1895), Fairfax, Virginia, USA

Nice lasting head that laces the glass well. Nutty sweet roasted malt aroma, some hints of dark breads. The flavor is quite nice, good firm crisp malts a surprising hop kick. Really nice palate, medium crisp. After three trys I am glad that I finally got to have this beer in an uninfected state. Beerdedone (1885), Croydon, Pennsylvania, USA
