Nov 5, 2009 Bottle thanks to Cletus. Pours a very dark brown with a small tan head. The aroma hits you as you pour. Booze, malts and hints of dark chocolate,dark fruit ,and a tidbit of licorice. Flavor was wonderful, heavy roasted malt to start that fades into a nutty, bready, grainy finish with the dark fruits. Very smooth transition, refreshing textured finish. This is a very good Doppelbock. It is quite complex, full flavored, and definitely deserves its spot in the list of top Doppelbocks

Sep 14, 2008 Thanks to Zathrus for this brew. Pours dark ebony with a smooth beige head. Rich and a soft roast flavor, hints of smoked malts, dark chocolate, and some dark fruit notes. Very smooth palate with some earthy notes in the finish.

Aug 31, 2005 Updated: Jul 9, 2006Pours a deep mahogany brown with a nice beige head. Aroma is very malty, bready, munich, vienna, toasted malts, some chocolate and toffee, with some fruitiness as well. Flaovr is loaded with caramunich malts and some chocolate, and finished off with a little bitterness, but mostly sweet. Definitely worthy of being grouped with the best doppelbocks in the world. Its hard to say if there is a better example made in the US.

Apr 16, 2005 GABF 2004 Dark brown in color with a thin off-white lacing. Sweet malty aroma of caramel and chocolate.Chocolate and huge malt flavor with sublte roast and a clean character.

Nov 24, 2005 Dark brown and red body with a thin light brown head. The aroma was light molasses with some chocolate and whiskey. Nice nose. The taste had chocolate, light apples and roasted apple core. There was also bread and maybe a hint of cinnamon. The smooth mouthfeel was impressive. This is obviously a quality brew. I may like it even more if I get to try this one again. One of the better dopples I have tried.

Jul 23, 2006 Bottle at Immy’s Tasting on 7-22-06. Dark brown. Nose is caramel, sweet malts, and is sort of smoky. Taste is malty, bittersweet, caramel, cocoa and light alcohol. Dark chocolate as well in this. Body is creamy and medium. Finishes with bittersweet chocolate, cocoa, smoky malts and light bitterness.

Jul 17, 2007 Poured a deep reddish-brown with a tan head which had minimal lacing. Aroma was a wicked mix of smoke, roasted coffee, and bread. Flavor was similar but was complemented by a subtle nuttiness in the dry finish. Certainly a creamy finish.

Nov 17, 2004 Very dark mahogny/brown with a tannish creamy head and spots of lace. Mellow aromas of caramel and roast. Raisins and spice as well, though I’m unsure of what spice I’m smelling. Wet malts with a nutty or woody touch. Some hints of chocolate, maybe. The earthy qualities come out in the flavors. Bitter hops with a strong malt backing. Bready almost. Alcohol is apparent. Bitter tail that’s tingly on the tongue. Malty, dry finish. Thanks Casey!
