Light fragrant gentle aroma of red plums and sweet melons. Rich and warmingly alcoholic taste of sweet brown sugar and a touch of almond paste. The malty crispness bellows through the light floral fruits and shows a rearing head of nipping alcohols. One lick from a good chocolate bar. A touch of euro hops round out for good balance. Well done. ABUSEDGOAT (1934), California, USA

Rich malty aroma, of caramel and toffee, with just the slightest hint of licorice. Slightly sweet, with a bit of toasted nuttiness. Chocolate syrup and butter pecan notes as well. I would love to be able to drink this all the time. Finishes with loads of rich caramelly nuttiness. Quite delicious. DicksMcGee (54), Seattle, Washington, USA

I’m not a big fan of doppelbocks in general but this was different. Poured dark brown with a nice full tan head. It doesn’t seem like a doppelbock. It had a hoppy/fruity aroma. The flavor was much like cherry. Doppelbocks to me are meaty. This wasn’t. Fruity and a little sour. Good but not what I recall from other doppelbocks. Porterish.
