Appears a near black with dark brown edges and a small, light tan head that fades into a mild collar.
Smell is oaky, with raisins, freshly baked brownies, grape juice, and vanilla with some nice citrusy pine resin coming through.
Taste is of the mentioned aromas with chocolate and rum soaked raisins being the focal point of the flavors.
Mouthfeel is full bodied, fruity, semi-sweet upfront with bitter chocolate and hops lingering. It’s slightly fizzy along the tongue and it finishes with a bitter cocoa flavor.

Apr 19, 2007 Draft at Capone’s. Poured a dark black with a nice brown head. Aroma was malty with choclate, coffee and even a hint of vanilla plus some oak. Flavor was great with choclate, oak and a slight hop bitter finish that lingers. This is a great beer to go with desert.

Apr 19, 2007 On draft at Capone’s for Pliny tasting. Pours black with a decent size brown head. Aroma of roasted chocolate malts, oak, and coffee. The flavor is chocolate, roast, coffeee, vanilla, oak, and a good amount of bitter hops.

Apr 19, 2007 Draft at Capone’s 4/18. Deep black with a thick brown head that slowly diminished. looked beautiful in the small snifter. Strong roasted malt aroma with some chocolate and a faint hint of wood. Smooth dark chocolate malt flavor, with some hops. Long bittersweet chocolate finish. Not bad, but i expected something more exciting.

Apr 18, 2007 Tap at Capone’s. Dark brown color. Fair lacing. Aroma of wood (oak), bitter chocolate and just a touch of smoke. Medium-heavy body. Moderately sweet and lightly bitter flavor. Nicely bitter finish.

Apr 18, 2007 On tap at Capone’s. Pours a deep dark brown with an average tan head that left some lacing. Aroma of some roasted malts, chocolate, like oak and surprisingly some hop presence. Flavor of coffee, chocolate and a good bit of hop bitterness and even flavor which sort of threw me off. Got some more of the oak/vanilla in the flavor.

Apr 18, 2007 Draught at Capone’s Poured a dark black head with thin head. Malty aroma, smokey, vanilla with some wood. Smooth malty taste, very mellow. Hoppy beer. The barrel aged really comes thru in the end. Very smooth. I seem to be one of the few who really enjoyed it there - but maybe my expectations were low considering a few others were saying some mediocre things.
