On tap. Poured a dark brown color with a smaller sized off white head. Aromas wood/oak (became stronger as the beer warmed up), roast, and chocolate. Tastes of wood (not as strong as the aromas), roast, and some chocolate. I was ’expecting’ more from the barrel aging and was somewhat disappointed. This beer was OK, but nothing I would classify as extraordinary.

Pours dark brown with a thin white head. Smells of chocolate, some oak, some boozy hints, a hint of tartness. Tastes of roasted malt, some booziness from the oak. Decent.

Draft at Capone’s. Onyx pour with 1-finger khaki head. Aroma of dark roasty malt, dark fruit, slight chocoff, slight oakiness, and some hops. Tastes roasty malty, with solid dark chocolate and dark fruit notes and a big hoppy finish. Subdued oak here, and a fairly complex palate. Very good, but not elite.

On tap at Capone’s. Pours a deep dark brown with an average tan head that left some lacing. Aroma of some roasted malts, chocolate, like oak and surprisingly some hop presence. Flavor of coffee, chocolate and a good bit of hop bitterness and even flavor which sort of threw me off. Got some more of the oak/vanilla in the flavor.

Location: Three Floyds Brewing Co. Parking Lot
Serving: Growler shared by AlexDeLarge. Thanks!

Tasting Notes
Aroma: Interesting blend of bourbon and hops (I wonder if this was dry-hopped in the barrel...).
Appearance: Murky dark brown color.
Flavor: Roasted malt, dark chocolate and grassy hops. Subtle bourbon, vanilla, oak/wood as well. Ashy/aspirin dryness in the finish.
Palate: Medium to medium-full body. Smooth on the palate.
Overall: Pretty good, but it would probably be better on a day that isn’t quite so hot and sunny!

Translucent, medium dark brown body with a fading off-white head. Aroma of caramel, raisins, chocolate, and tobacco. Flavor is markedly drier than the regular imperial porter, with apparent boozy bourbon characters. Roastiness is also enhanced with a fruity element as well. Impression of charred wood, chocolate, and bourbon builds. Solid, but nothing spectacular.

On draft at Capone’s for Pliny tasting. Pours black with a decent size brown head. Aroma of roasted chocolate malts, oak, and coffee. The flavor is chocolate, roast, coffeee, vanilla, oak, and a good amount of bitter hops.

Draft @ Capones. Dark Brown color with small head. Oaky bourbon aroma mixed with some chocolate in the nose. Taste was of a pretty good porter mixed with some bourbon flavors, vanilla, and some chocolate. Tasty, but not quite amazing. I know Matt (from Capone’s) is awesome, but how the hell is he the only one to feature this beer so far?
