Commercial Description:
Originally brewed to celebrate the beginning of the German brewing season and the 1810 wedding of crown prince Ludwig of Bavaria and his bride-to-be, princess Therese of Saxon-Hildburghausen. This amber beer was brewed in March ("Marzenbier") and left to age in cool lagering caves during the heat of the summer. Our rich and satisfying Bavarian-style OctoberFest comes from a special blend of imported German malts that creates a full-bodied brew and stresses a malty flavor and lingering aroma. Gently hopped and delicately balanced, its true-to-style, slow fermentation and long, cold maturation produces a luxuriously smooth, award-winning brew.

fine tan head, light malt aroma, big body, rich malt flavor, light balancing bitterness, touch of carmel character, nice but a bit hoppy/bitter for the style

Bright brick orange colour. The aroma is earthy, caramelly with hints of toffee. Very flavourful malt character - smokey, toffeeish and earthy, with some spicy hop in there as well. Vibrant, lively example leans towards rusticity over cleanliness, but for me that’s a good thing in this style. It fits so well with wet leaves and wood fireplaces and that makes it a great beer for October.

Pours a deep copper amber with a large-bubbled, frothy off-white head. Aroma has some sweet grainy vienna maltiness and an authentic noble hoppy balance. Starts with some mild sweet caramel malt turning more dry and bitter toward a sticky, sugary bittersweet finish. This could use some more balance and smoother taste, but otherwise a decent oktoberfest.

Bottle… Pours crystal clear and burnt-orange with a small, creamy, off-white head. Good retention. The nose is malty and vinous with notes of caramel, brown sugar and crusted port. Medium-bodied with a creamy mouthfeel and stinging carbonation. Malty, caramely flavor – leans only a dab toward the sweet side of balance. Crisp, fairly clean, lightly minerally finish.

Yes, I really am rating an Octoberfest in May. Pours brown with a small head. Smells of caramel and toffee. Taste is of nuts with a nice slightly bitter hoppy finish. Great mouthfeel. An excellent Oktoberfest.

Tap at Rattle N Hum. Deep amber pour. The nose is lightly sweet and a little bit musty. There is a lot of caramel malt sweetness and a distinct toffeeish aroma that forbodes something sweet. Lots of diacetyl and malt. Bleh… way too sweet and chewy to even be called Oktoberfest.

Thanks to jjpm74 for this one. The pour was copper and turbid, with 2-finger head. Aroma of corn flakes, heavy fruity hops, cabernet, cherries, blackberries. The taste was very caramel malty with some cabernet, almonds, figs, and a medium palate. Well done.

Head is initially average sized, frothy, off-white, mostly lasting. Body is clear medium amber. Aroma is moderately malty (caramel, toasted light bread), moderately hoppy (flowers), with notes of orange and peach. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation, lightly astringent.
