Commercial Description:
This traditional American ale blends copious amounts of five different malts and various English and American hops to yield a rich and flavorful brew. As this ale is extremely complex in its flavor and quite full-bodied, the consumer is rewarded by letting a small amount warm in a brandy snifter and sipping it as one would a fine sherry. We age our Barleywine for one month in oak bourbon casks to add some vanilla and smoky notes and blend these flavors into a full-blown sensory experience to enjoy on a cold winter's eve.

2006 vintage. 500mL bottle. Murky dark brown-orange with a medium sized rock tan head. Walnut, dark alefruit, appleskin, and caramel in the aroma. Doughy, almost salty malt up front with a smoky and sweet alefruit luster. Stale caramel and heavy vanilla in the finish, with a hot alcohol presence. Mouthfeel is heavy, chewy.

2005 bottle - aged 1 year. Pours deep mahogany into a snifter. Tan head quickly subsides to bubble the surface. Oak and hop aromas. Upfront vanilla changes to a lasting smoked bourbon finish.

2006 bottle; Nose is dark fruit, caramel, and some woodiness; hazy dark walnut with very little head; flavor shows caramel malts, dark fruits, bourbon, vanilla, and some alcohol (pretty well covered though), with some mild hop bitterness showing at the end.

Hazy dark orange pour with brown hues. Lasting head of cream color, then decent retention. Aroma is dry fruits, notably grapefruit, with enough noticeable malt to make it appealing, definitely still in the new school of American barleywines. Flavor is very hoppy but quaffable. Malt is lingering and roasty, additions of cookies and sweet toffee. Nice subtle and long finish. Tasty.

(Bottle 50 cl) Hazy and opaque reddish brown almost without any head. - not your typical Barley Wine look. Odd, unclean aroma - some dried fruit perhaps. Quite full-bodied with accents of roasted malt and dried fruit - perhaps some plums. A bitter finish. Quite inharmonious. 011206
