Commercial Description:
This traditional American ale blends copious amounts of five different malts and various English and American hops to yield a rich and flavorful brew. As this ale is extremely complex in its flavor and quite full-bodied, the consumer is rewarded by letting a small amount warm in a brandy snifter and sipping it as one would a fine sherry. We age our Barleywine for one month in oak bourbon casks to add some vanilla and smoky notes and blend these flavors into a full-blown sensory experience to enjoy on a cold winter's eve.

Bottled. Cloudy dark reddish brown coloured. Toffee and dried fruits in the aroma. Very sweet and yeasty flavour with loads of old prunes. Some hops in the finish. Rather light body for a barley wine. Too sweet and pruny for me.

This 2006 flippy top bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a head of medium sized clear colored bubbles that was fully diminished and left behind a opaque dark . The mild aroma was hoppy malty and brown malt. The mouth feel was weakly tingly at the start mediumly tingly at the finish mild vinous hop aftertaste. The flavor contained notes of malt hops and vinous. This brew gave me the beer shivers!

Bottle... Murky, nut brown ale with a small, creamy, beige head. Nose of cocoa, bourbon, vanilla and wood. Malty, earthy flavor with big chocolate, bourbon and just-short-of heavily bitter grapefruit rind. Actually leans on the bitter side of balance. Full-bodied with a syrupy mouthfeel and soft carbonation. Finishes bourbony, bitter and warming. A BIG NOD goes out to jjpm74 for shipping this bottle my way!

Pours very dark, thick, cloudy brown with virtually no head. When shaken in a brandy glass, a small, tan head forms - consisting mostly of very large bubbles. The aroma has chocolate, some dried fruit, a decent bit of hops, a decent bit of alcohol, and hints of oak. The flavor starts bittersweet with a good bit of fruity hop bitterness, some fruit, and some malts. The middle of the flavor presents some smoke, some vanilla, some chocolate, and signs of carbonation prickling the tongue. The finish is long and quite dry - with flavors of bitter cocoa and hops. The mouthfeel is thick and almost flat.
