Commercial Description:
This traditional American ale blends copious amounts of five different malts and various English and American hops to yield a rich and flavorful brew. As this ale is extremely complex in its flavor and quite full-bodied, the consumer is rewarded by letting a small amount warm in a brandy snifter and sipping it as one would a fine sherry. We age our Barleywine for one month in oak bourbon casks to add some vanilla and smoky notes and blend these flavors into a full-blown sensory experience to enjoy on a cold winter's eve.

Bottle via JB175. Dark color. Smell of alcohol, malt, spice, caramel, hops, chocolate and oak. Taste of caramel, slight vanilla, oak, chocolate, spice, toffee, nuts, hops, alcohol and dark fruit. Warms the body.

Courtesy boboski!!! Pours a cloudy, brown that is redolent of caramel. No head, just a delicte wisp of froth. Very malty aroma, some burnt orange, with a hint of raisins. Flavor is a bit on the bitter side, which is a bummer. Does have a nice warming maltiness, but the bitterness was a bit off-putting.

Dark Mahognay pour, almost no head at all. Aroma is very barleywine like and I don’t say that in a dumb way, dark berries, caramel malts and lots of bourbon. Flavor is bourbon, smoke, dark fruits and a good amount of caramel malt. The more it warms the better. Thanks JJPM74

Very malty brew, not so much hoppy. The aroma is very bourbon and caramelized malts, with a touch of sourness. The oak flavors compliment the beer very well, but I pick up almost no vanilla. A more vinous BW than anything else, and not at all what I expected, but I liked it.

Rich, strong coffee nose, a bit smokey too, dark cloudy brown, tiny tan head. Taste begins with a smokey malt, tantalizing hops also. Wonderfully bitter, medium bodied. Quite a treat! Thanks so much R.

Poured from an attractive cobalt blue flip-top bottle. Dark brown body with a thin light tan head that quickly faded to a thin film. With large bubbles sticking to all sides of the glass, this looks more a glass of root beer than a barley wine. Pleasant aroma of caramel and raisins. Flavor is caramel, raisins and alcohol. There is a lingering bitterness at the finish that I didn’t care for in a barley wine. A bit lacking in body as well for a barley wine. Room for improvement on this one.
