nick76 (2634), Tampa, Florida, USA Nov 4, 2009 The aroma has both malt and watermelon candy. The appearance is hazy light amber with an average sized head. The flavor is like the aroma with both good and bad elements. The palate is smooth. Overall I want to like it because the watermelon is "strangely refreshing" but it’s also artificial and not a lot like beer. If you want something different this is it. sebletitje (1880), Tampa, Florida, USA Oct 11, 2009 pours pinkish clear, thick white head.
Aroma of watermelon, reminiscent of chewing-gum.
Flavor, watermelon, light sugary, corn /sweetness mouthfeel with some bitterness. More like a soda pop with hints of malts, sweet fruit. Refreshing and not bad.
travita (1851), Frisco, Texas, USA Sep 11, 2009 Very artifical like smell of watermelon, very candy like, sugary, and fruits. The looks is orange in color with a decent white head. The taste is artifical like, dry, malts, weird sweetness. fredandboboflo (1395), East Setauket, New York, USA Sep 10, 2009 Bottle. Oh my. Aroma is the sweet (as opposed to tart) half of a watermelon Jolly Rancher. Flavor is the same. The very first sniff and very first sip were both interesting and pleasant for me, but the beer QUICKLY shows itself as being the definition of one dimensional and a sip or two later goes beyond cloying to sickly sweetness. No fun. LilBeerDoctor (1480), East Setauket, New York, USA Sep 9, 2009 Bottle. Pours a light pink/orange with a small white head. Aroma is incredibly fruity and sugary. It actually reminds me of a strawberry Starburst, although I suppose there are some watermelon notes too. Very aromatic; you can smell this thing from a mile away. Flavor of the same strawberry/watermelon Starburst with a touch of wheat notes in the finish, although it is primarily a sugar/fruit bomb. This is not very beer-like although I can’t say I didn’t enjoy it. However, it does become harder to drink as you attempt plow through it. Interesting, that’s about all I can say.
6/4/5/3/12 [3.0/5] markwise (1132), 15 Minutes from Kuhnhenn in, Florida, USA Sep 5, 2009 Pours salmonflesh pink/ orange with a frothy, quickly dissipating white head. Nose is watermelon, high-fructose corn syrupy with essence of Jolly Rancher swimming about the room from the moment I open it. If it tastes like it smells, then it should be a malternative. Flavor is a bit mild with less assertive watermelon flavors than I imagined. Flavor lingers with mild watermelon and some rind. So-so. I am glad I tried it, but it is light bodied and has potential. What would this be like with brett?? smcolw (314), Wayland, Massachusetts, USA Aug 30, 2009 Okay, even before I smell or taste this one, I am dubious. Open mind, I remind myself.
The beer looks nice. Good head, decent lace. Golden-amber color, cloudy.
Think Sweettart when smelling this beer. Quite candy-like--it also reminds me of the taste of children’s aspirin. If I were blindfolded, I would never guess that this a beer.
The taste is an improvement from the smell. Still, it is closer to soda than a beer. The body is appropriate.
First thought, I’d place this beer in the Fruit category. Secondly, I cannot detect any watermelon. A clear miss in many ways. kiefdog (1534), Tampa, Florida, USA Aug 21, 2009 12oz bottle from Datz Deli (Tampa, FL). Pours a generally clear dark strawberry color with thin white head. Aroma is sweet and fruity with strong notes of watermelon, simple syrup, wheat, yeast, ripe fresh fruit. Flavor is sweet and fruity with watermelon, syrup, ripe fresh fruit, jolly ranchers, yeast. Generally medium body with a fruity finish. Interesting ale.
