| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 30, 2009 kind of like the three boys pils with extra malt heft - more emphasis on clean hops and malt balance than ale yeast esters. lovely aroma of tropical smelling nz hops - fresh, not condensed, even some hopsack - and freshly baked bread. nice deep gold colour with perhaps a bit too much co2, but nice irregular, sticky head. firm malt, acidic enough to be quenching without being sour, peppery bitterness lasts and lasts. perhaps a bit too clean for an ipa but this beer showed the hops beautifully when it was fresh (had three bottles, two fresh and one a bit stale, and noticed the difference). mickmac (105), Ngunnawal, Australia
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Nov 18, 2009 Bottle. Pours with a large dense white head over a clear amber body. Great fresh hop aromas-resin and grass. A spicy ginger like taste that peals back to reveal a permeating lingering bitterness. Lacks some of the floral hop notes of some IPAs, but I really liked the lingering bitter finish of this beer. phaleslu (575), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 20, 2009 Bottle from Minibar in Queenstown. Pours gold with a big white head and a lot of visible carbonation. Giant hop nose with grapefruit citrus, malt, and grain. Hoppy flavor, along with citrus (mostly grapefruit once again), malt, and pepper. Light body, bitter, and acidic- not smooth drinking, but a better IPA than it’s given credit for on here. | 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Jun 1, 2009 Bottled, thanks TimE! Clear amber, firm head. Vague grapefruity aroma. Mid-sweet, mily and caramelly with notes of rubber. A pedestrian crossing of American style malt, NZ type hops in British amounts. snuffla (101), Chch, New Zealand
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 27, 2009 Updated: Aug 12, 2009Loads and loads of hops on the nose, but spelt like a it too much like a bag of hop pellets than a well integrated beer nose. Still nice enough tho. Slightly raw and grassy smelling and tasting which carries thru to the mouth.Drinkable, but a bit too much with the hops, even tho i love hops. Will try again
Rerate after Pomeroys tasting. Looks like the dry hopping has worked out all right, no grassiness, just layes of hop flavour - my pick of the tasting. Was 6/3/5/3/12/2.9 TimE (1364), Tokyo, Japan
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 19, 2009 Light brown color. Huge crystal malts upfront with hops definitely playing second fiddle. Some bitterness in the mouth, but really I thought this was an IPA for yuppies, who want to get into craft beer. DuffMan (2779), the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, Canada
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 26, 2009 Bottle, shared with my lovely wife over delicious blue cod fish and chips after a day of fishing with the kids on Stewart Island. Pours a bright golden with a foamy white head that shows good retention. Nice kumquat citrus and resin aroma. Lean malts and citrus aromatic hops make up the palate with a pleasant bitter finish. More understated than many American IPAs, but still very tasty IMO. There is an inherent bias to this rating, as this beer was enjoyed at the end of a near-perfect day!
