Therefore when one of my customers ordered a bottle and offered me a chance to have a sip, I thought I was going to be struck down with some sort of nasty intestinal affliction.
What happened was a lovely briny enveloping stout that charmed its way into my affections. Since tasting I have stocked and recommended to many punters. I am led to believe that there are Oyster Stouts that are fined with oysetr shells, ones that are designed to be consumed with oysters and ones that are brewed with oysetrs in them (like this one). If you are new to the style, and if this is anything to go by, graps it with both hands and indulge.
If seven maids, with seven mops swept for half a year they’d never pass up a chance for another 3 Boy’s Oyster Stout. joergen (6257), Frederiksberg, Denmark Jun 19, 2008 Bottle.
Clear brown coloured with a small beige head.
Roasted aroma of caramel, coffee and chocolate.
Roasted flavour of coffee and liquorice with notes of hops.
Roasted finish. yespr (6259), Copenhagen O, Denmark Jun 14, 2008 50 cL bottle. Pours pitch black with a fully diminished off-white head. Mild roasted malt aroma. Flavour is mild roasted and light bitter. Ends with a smooth choocolate malt and a light bitterness coming through. OStreetBrewery (95), Wellington, New Zealand Apr 5, 2008 Low condition keg served by beer engine through a sparkler at the Malthouse Wgtn.
Aroma features Milk chocolate, and a touch of bitter spicy coffee. On the palate there is more chocolate, a touch of sour milk, and a oily saline character, sweet nutty malt and a hint of frying vegetable oil ends on a mild roast note. Fantastic beer, the serving method suggests how fantastic this would be cask conditioned.
