WisconsinBeer (514), St Paul, Minnesota, USA Nov 6, 2009 Bottle. Thanks to Motortoddhead for the hookup! Pours a deep brownish black color with a minimal head. Aroma is hersheys syrup and almonds. Flavor is chocolate and bready malts, along with ripe toffee prune fruits. Earthy notes in here as well. Nice medium to full body. Cocoa finish. Alcohol is not noticeable at all, this stuff could creep up on you. I’m impressed, this is a solid beer. Tripplebrew (486), Saint Paul, Minnesota, USA Nov 6, 2009 Pours an opaque chocolate brown with light head. Aroma is chocolate and nut. flavor is very chocolaty and malts, sweet and bitter notes between coffee and chocolate are balancing each other out. Body creamy but with high carbonation. Rciesla (3510), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA Nov 6, 2009 Bottle. Pours a hazy brune body with a tan head. Chocolate, caramel, toffee fruit. Some lusher vinous wood and plum. Nuts coco and fruity warming. Decent brew. BelgianBeerGal (1276), Sabbatical in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Nov 5, 2009 Traded bottle. Poured much darker than expected; cola-like with a small khaki head and active carbonation. Aroma is chocolate, plums and bran muffins. Big roasted malt in the flavour, but also a sweetness. Just a touch of coffee bitterness in the finish plus some woody tones. 10 ABV was totally unoticeable. Very easy drinking and enjoyable. ricke (68), Malme, Sweden Nov 2, 2009 Dark brown with a medium-sized off-white head. Some lacings.
Bready malts in the nose, spices and sweet vinous fruity aromas. Hints of toffee, bark and perhaps licorice. The alcohol makes an appearance every now and then.
The taste is similar to the smell. Bready malts with lots of woody notes and vinous fruits. Notes of spicy hops, coffee powder, chocolate and brown sugar. The finish has some bitterness to it and notes of malts and warming alcohol.
Medium body and medium carbonation. Considering the high ABV and the malty profile, I was expecting a fuller body.
A good well done beer, but it’s not fantastic.

(Copy of old Beer Advocate review) sigma23 (217), , Maine, USA Oct 28, 2009 cracked this the day of vagabond release, in the parking lot actually! pours a deep amber/brown with sizable head. aroma is sweet with roasted malt, dark over ripe fruit, and just a little soy. drinks with over ripe fruit up front and malt coming throughout. a bit of a tart soy on the finish but very mellow and quite drinkable. alcohol was well hidden. HogTownHarry (3922), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada Oct 26, 2009 Bottle ( 650ml ). Shared by blankboy, garthicus, gregclow, jerc and mabel. Deep clear ruby with an average lasting creamy tan head. Dry wheaty aroma, boozy, not very hoppy by TF standards, tart and a bit vegetal - I suspect this is the palo santo wood character, as I don’t really recognize it. Taste is medium alcohol, roasty and fairly herbal-bitter (not "vegetal" at all, it must have been the wood). Average body, decently carbonated, a little burnt in the bitter, slightly sour linger - it really grew on me. gearbike (413), West Bloomfield, Michigan, USA Oct 19, 2009 Dark pour from the bottle looks like a flat porter. Dark dry fruit sweetness. Absolutely no alcohol smell and taste is very well hidden. Rather thin but still has some malty backbone.
