This brew poured a dark, copper/orange color with a two-finger thick, rocky beige head that lingered. Some nice, thick lace was left around the glass. The aroma was made up of a big, sweet, biting grapefruit presence, caramel, and also some lasting pine bitterness. The flavor was very similar to Two-Hearted Ale. And yes, by saying that, I mean it as a huge compliment. All of the familiar IPA flavors exist in harmony, but at the same time, this beer is very robust and flavorful. The mouthfeel was medium-bodied and slightly resiny with light carbonation. I you are a fan of strong IPA’s and such, this is a must try. I just wish it was on tap more often. kp (8500), Woodstock, Georgia, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Aug 28, 2007 Draft at FFF’s. Burnt orange in color, little white foamy head. Very nice lacing apparent. A bit of a bubblegum aroma with some strawberries and a big floral hop character. Very smooth mouth feel, BIG floral and pine hop profile throughout along with a sweet citrus lurking in the horizon. Very good stuff. masonjer (564), Holt, Michigan, USA

They are the hop masters. This had less hop bite than others, more subdued than alpha king. Couldn’t decide on the style, tasted less like an IPA than alpha king does. Nicely balanced, some spice, citrus and pine. Overall, a good one. rowefam3 (70), kendallville, Indiana, USA

Nearly a perfect pour. An inch of frothy white head with thick
engrossing lace.
Spectacular nose of a boquet of flowers. Big citrusy
grapefruit, and big great hop smell. One of the best smelling
pale ales I’ve ever stuck my nose into.
So if a blind man were drinking this it may be confused by him
for grapefruit juice. Enourmous grapefruit flavor, with other
citrus side notes of lemon, some blood orange, lime, and did I
mention the great hop complexity. Overall a great tasting beer
and spectacular mouthfeel. Could drink many but is somewhat
tannic hence the hop content.

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 10, 2007 On tap. Pours a very slightly cloudy light copper, producing a decent fluffy head with good retnention and rings of lace as the beer goes down. Moderate citrus and pine hop aroma. Flavor is moderate to high hop bitter, piney & soapy hop flavors, and moderate (read: not enough) malt providing a weak backbone. Average body & mouthfeel with a medium, crisp dry palate. Looks like I’m in a solid minority in finding this beer especially exciting. TPaliga (212), Munster, Indiana, USA
