| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 14, 2006 On tap at DL06: Pours a clear amber bronze with a nice, frothy, well-lacing off-white head. Aroma of fresh piney hops and some sweet and strange character almost reminiscent of bean sprouts. Body starts with a touch of sweetness, lots of bittering piney hops and a touch of grapefruit toward a drier, lightly earthy, but thinner finish. An interesting and very drinkable IPA. gferd (99), Atlanta, Georgia, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 21, 2006 Three Floyds found a winner in this IPA. A super-hoppy beer, the hops stand out like few other beers. A little bitter, but otherwise a B+ mynie (44), Waterloo, Iowa, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 7, 2006 Pours into an imperial pint glass deep red brown, the color of fine furniture in a furniture commercial. Almost no head.
Smells like big hops, the slight pungent twang of harsh natural chemcials, and light, sweet caramel.
Tastes like big, orange rhind hops. There’s a fruitiness in these hops that pops out like a picture in a magic eye puzzle--out of a speckeled haze there comes an eerily clear picture of a sailboat. All this is backed up with a strong, sweet finish of caramel malt that lends a great drinkability to the brew. IPAndy (120), minneapolis, Minnesota, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 6, 2006 Had at the brewpub, $5 for a pint. If value was a criteria, I would have to rate it much lower. Lots of hop bitterness, but doesn’t taste like the typical Floyds dry-hopping present in Alpha King/Dreadnaught and even Gumballhead. Without that signature taste, it came off as more of a typical brewpub IPA to me, which is fine (hence the 3.4 rating), but not really worth 3-Floyds prices. screigh (264), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | May 24, 2006 On tap at the brewpub. I would call it Alpha King with a kick in the nuts. More hops a kind of abrassive quality to it over Alpha King. I know that comment sounds bad but I mean it in a possitive way. A very grassy, earthy feel to it. I loved it. I wish I could get it in bottles locally! black95tt (82), Doylestown, Ohio, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | May 23, 2006 Had on tap at the brewery the night before Dark Lord Day. Aroma was very citrusy, orange and tangerines, some grapefruit. Just wonderful. Taste was malty, caramelly and well balanced. Good malt backbone to fight the onslaught of summit hops. I’m really starting to dig the summit hops. This is a great pale ale. Another awesome beer from the dudes at 3F’s Firemoose15 (542), Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 22, 2006 On draught at pub day before DL release. Aroma primarily all hops. Pour was a nice golden. Flavor was nice hoppy pine and floral essence. Palate was good also very crisp. Overall good. hotstuff (3183), Indiana, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 13, 2006 Draft at 3F. A mostly diminishing small ivory head with minimal lacing, transparent, no visible carbonation, and a golden and light orange hue. Nose was big on hops, grapefruit, pine, and some caramel notes. Flavor was big on hops, pine, grapefruit and lightly bitter. Hoppy mouthfeel. Medium body. A hopheads delight.
