Nose is big and hoppy...citrus as well. Much more like a good IPA than a Pale. Taste is fantastic and has a great mouthfeel. Pine, hops, ripe citrus and a good malt balance. Finishes clean and flavorful....this is great. Thanks T. bboeckl (135), Grafton, Wisconsin, USA
| 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Oct 23, 2007 On tap. Hops, Hops, Hops!!! This is not a beer to start out a newbie. A deep breath reveals pine, hops, herbs, citrus. A walk through deep pine forests, one inhales and a bitter menthol type aroma but instead of cool and mellow like a pine forest... one is transported to a remote island, grapefruit is growing from the pine trees. You take a taste, sweet, sour, piney, herbal. This brew will cure what ales ya! Thick, balanced, there is a bit of an acidic bite that can get a little out of control if you continue to drink this, but otherwise the perfect beer to sip, over and over and over again! I would highly recommend. natedoggkc (164), Lenexa, Kansas, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Oct 20, 2007 Thanks Gregis!!! This has a nice medium brown/copper color. The aroma is fantastic, full of hops. I could smell this all day. This has more grapefruit taste than I thougt it would but not over the top. Very drinkable. Next time I am in an area where they have this I will pick plenty up. valpoaj (362), Valparaiso, Indiana, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Oct 19, 2007 Nice looking pour with bubbly head. Very citrusy (in particular grapefruit) aroma screams HOPS at you without even taking a sip. Flavor is very strong hops from beginning to finish. Some light caramel malts try to stand up to the intense hops, but didn’t have quite enough backbone to stand up; flavor was enjoyable nevertheless. Bitterness lasts long after the drink is over. This beer was incredible on the palate...unlike any other Pale Ale I’ve ever consumed. I would consider this a very good drink, but not excellent (but I’m not really a true hophead). As a side note, the hop bitterness loses a bit of its edginess with a bit of warming... Gregis (1132), Shawnee, Kansas, USA
| 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Oct 19, 2007 Updated: Jul 12, 2009I have the honor of entering the 1000th rating of this highly regarded American pale. Bottle purchased at Crown #15 in Fishers, IN. It pours a deep copper with a few floaties and a thin, creamy, beige head that leaves behind patchy lacing. The nose is sublime: a perfect balance of big citrus, light pine and earthy hops along with a solid, sweet malt backing that smells of candy sugar. Quite nice. The mouthfeel is medium-full bodied and slick with a controlled bitter hop finish. The flavor is big piny, citric and resinous hops along with a solid, moderately sweet malt backing. While lingeringly bitter at the finish, the malt backing is such a perfect match that the balance of flavors is seamless. This is an amazingly flavorful beer for one so quaffable. Each sip compels you to take another. I can see myself drinking these one after another until I go blind, pass out, or see God. If I lived in Indiana or the Chicagoland area, this would be, without question, my staple beer. bitter (1137), Henderson, Nevada, USA

| 2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 3/5 | 3/10 | 3/5 | 8/20 | Oct 12, 2007 The second or third time I’ve had this and, boy, have I changed my mind. The super-aggressive hops are pretty unpleasant. The citrus in palate is more like bitter pith. I’d have to be in the right mood for this one to go down. Poured a deep amber color with a nice off-white head. Aroma of grapefruit and hops. The balance on this beer is spot on. A nice, spicey malt backbone greets you and leads you into a fruity hop hit that tingles your tongue. Very smooth beer. My first Three Floyds beer, and hopefully not my last. Very good.
