Rich, soft malts, hoppy, coffee, with a lightly bitter finish... not overwhelming in robust flavor, but a nice drinking brew for any occasion. punkrkr27 (639), Berkley, Michigan, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 4, 2008 Pours black with a slight mahogany tint and a tan head. Aroma is chocolaty, with a slight roast and lots of pine for a porter. Flavor is all chocolate with a healthy hop bitterness on the finish. A slight hint of brown sugar and roast are also present. Medium body. Tasty brew with a unique take on a porter but not terribly complex. emacgee (1892), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Mar 2, 2008 Thanks lb4lb. Pours a dark black allowing little light through. One finger creamy tan head. The nose was sweet, nice citrusy hop, not too much roast, light alcohol, some chocolate and a little coffee. A little bit more roast is apparent in the flavor with more pronounced coffee notes, definite waxy hop profile, some citrus coming through. Definitely some fruit in there. Waxy warming palate. Very nice Christmas brew. durhambeer (1222), Durham, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Mar 2, 2008 Dark black pour, slightly pinkish-tan head. Bitter hops and coffee, roast on the nose. Surprisingly creamy fruity taste in addition to the expected chocolate/mocha notes. Thinner on the palate than expected. A unique and satisfying brew. Flavor is caramel, tootsie rolls, charred hops a tad bit of hops. Finishes clean, carbonation fits well. ajm (949), Los Angeles, California, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Feb 29, 2008 A rather thin porter. Tasted more like a veg/herb than a porter. Really green topnotes kind of destroyed it for me. 17thfloor (1498), Chicago, Illinois, USA

Wow, hops in a porter, great pine/grapefruit aroma on top of the roasted coffee malt. Sweet honey and salty crisp hops with a really nice back-end bitterness. This is a porter but most of the attention is on the hops. Not really what I want in a porter... but a damn good beer. 9 4 8 4 17. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Fresh 2008 bottle 12.15.08. Pours a thick black with a small frothy tan head. Strong green hop aroma, lots of earthy pine and resin, tea leaves and fertilizer, another 08 fall hop harvest beer with too green hops. Flavor follows, damn green hops, excellent roast and chocolate with a touch of coffee. On the sweeter side, go figure. Medium fluffy body that is a touch syrupy with sharp fluffy carbonation. 8 4 8 4 16 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . [2009 bottle sampled 11.11.09 ] Yay! Back to its original form. Super hoppy aroma with lovely roast, extreme but in great balance. Flavor follows, super drinkable, wow this is good this year, piney, resinous, pine needles, tree sap, some hop greeness. Medium/full bodied, more on the medium side, creamy but light, soft carbonation. Love it! 9.4.9.4.18

Very dark with a nice chocolate head. The aroma is slightly hoppy with remnants of coffee. Tastes just as a porter should. Hopps, coffee and chocolate.
This is a fantastic porter.
