Pours a clean dark black with a beautiful thick brown head that immediately draws to mind whipped hot chocolate. But the good hot chocolate, with actual chocolate in it, not that crap with the little blond girl and sad excuses for marshmallows. Huge pine and floral hops which is impressive since A) I’ve been a lazy bum and haven’t opened this in a timely fashion… it’s May already, so it’s held up very well in spite of my neglect. And near the end of May to boot. And B) it’s a porter. Really neat to get one that blurs the line between styles. Behind the hops there’s a nice roast malt note, and a touch of bitter chocolate, smoke, and leather. Smells amazing. Medium to thick mouthfeel, leathery. Nice spiciness aided by the lively carbonation. Big roast characteristic on the finish giving it a nice bitterness, but a very refined one at that. Remarkably good, and yet another FFF beer that makes me miss them distributing to NY. gunhaver (1033), Tampa, Florida, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 24, 2009 Bottle, courtesy someone. Dark brown thick pour, wet head, sticky ring of lacing. Nose is very hoppy, nice spicy and vanilla, some chocolate. Dry chocolate flavors, some roast, some caramel. Nice and full-bodied, although I hesitate to call it a porter because it’s so damn hoppy. That’s 3F for ya. trevor211 (518), Seattle, Washington, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 22, 2009 Thanks to Bobby91w for sending this one my way. Pours a deep, dark brown - almost black - with a light tan head. Honest to God, the first thing I smell is cola. Afri cola, for those who may remember that one. Some chocolate as well, and a very mild note of roasty coffee. Flavor brings out the coffee a bit more. Certainly malt-forward, and I can actually taste the warm Mexican sugar in there, too. The palate is nice - a crisp carbonation, but it doesn’t have that dry finish that I usually look for in darker brews. Nutty sweet, and smooth for sure, but having discovered the bliss that is a good impy stout, porters just aren’t my style. ajbitt (46), , Indiana, USA

Wasn’t expecting too much already having my favorite Porters and not looking for another one to compete, but this is one of the better Porters I’ve ever had. Dark pour, opaque, short head. Very very nice palate. Smooth, soft, silky. Touch of carbonation to give a crisp finish. Chocolate! Subtle flavors - coffee of course - not over done. Think I actually prefer this to Founders Porter - while excellent, this feels more sophisitcated. Will definitely purchase again. travita (1937), Frisco, Texas, USA

The looks is brown to black in color with a nice beige colored head. The taste is slight citrus hops mixing well with malts, roastiness, chocolate, sweet, and smooth. blklab2007 (972), Connecticut, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 2, 2009 22 oz. bottle (2008), in a snifter. A solid porter, but a tad overrated in my view- not Christmas-sy enough. Ar: Pine, allspice, toasted malt, chocolate, Brie and strong floral hops ala Alpha King. Ap: Dense black color w/ a deep brown pour. Robust tan head w/ good retention leaving plenty of lacing. Fl: Chocolate, chicory, roasted malts and hop oils. Pa: Thin. A solid, complex beer- FFF never disappoints!
