Near-black with a nice beige head that drops quickly. Nose is a fantastic balance of bitter roasted malt, like coffee, and as strong a milk chocolate as I’ve smelled in a beer. Flavor is milky and roasty, but the coffee hits wonderfully in the back half and continues through the finish. A little green and thin, the body could use a light boost. Not incredibly complex, but this kind of balance from FFF is stunning, and the lack of sugar overkill is equally as impressive. Total enjoyment.

Frauditor (152), Hagerstown, Maryland, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 29, 2009 Pours a very dark brown, almost black. Massive tan head. Stays forever with maximum lacing.Very hoppy nose like an ipa. Flavor an instant hit of coffee. Strangely, the hops are very minimal, unlike the aroma. Very malty. Delicately balanced! Slightly thinner on the palate then I would have liked. Lively carbonation that fits the style very well. Overall, fantastic. ElDuderino (146), Roslindale, Massachusetts, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Dec 28, 2009 Bottle. Pours a dark brown body with slight ruby notes at the corners and a tan head. The nose is slightly dusty with nice roasted malt notes and the body is lighter than expected. The frothy head almost completely dissolves into the body during a drink. Flavors of blackberries, dried sweet cherries and maybe some plums compliment the nice chocolate malts. I was expecting some traditional holiday spices but the only trace I got was on some grainy sugar. Very very nicely done, but still a big sugary beer. smith4498 (921), Miami, Florida, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 25, 2009 Bottle from a trade with StFun. Pours black with tan head. Aromas of roasted malts and pine hops. Burnt malts, coffee and chocolate flavors with lots of pine hops. Medium body with moderate carbonation. It’s a good beer but something about the flavor combinations doesn’t click for me. Thanks Josh. awiseman01 (383), Indianapolis, Indiana, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Dec 24, 2009 Bottle. Pours black with slight brown edge and some light tan head. Nose is border-line dreadnaught blanketing dark malts. Flavor is as much hops as you could ever hope for in a porter. The porter flavor is still smooth and solid, yet infused with hops. I love FFF, and I love hops, yet I am starting to wonder why every big beer from them is hop overload. It’s not even a bad thing, and I’m not even complaining. I guess I would just like a year round IS, not a once a year offering. Merry Christmas! Tripplebrew (502), Saint Paul, Minnesota, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Dec 24, 2009 Pours a thick espresso brown with thick tan head. Aroma is heavy alcohol and raisin with very sweet sugar notes. Flavor is a sweet raisin with vanilla and coffee. Body is creamy with mild carbonation. WisconsinBeer (532), St Paul, Minnesota, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 24, 2009 Bottle. Thanks to 17th floor for the hookup! Pours a deep inky brown with an espresso colored foamy head. Flavor is dark dry roast, hints of coffee and chocolate, has that nice sugar punch that I love about 3F. Finishes with a nice chunk of pine like American hop presence. Minor alcohol finish. This is as good as it gets for an Xmas beer! Nothing like Xmas Ale on Xmas Eve! Cheers!
