Graduation weekend in Bloomington. Three Floyds Alpha Kong is a fantastic beer. Hazy, brown-amber in color with no head, flavors of bananna and spices dominate the smooth after taste. I would have liked less alcohol in this beer and a bit more carbonation. Alpha Kong is somewhere in between a full-bodied belgian strong ale and a light barley wine.

Very nice Belgian. Pours dark amber with a small head. Very busy nose with molasses, brown sugar, banana. Taste is semi sweet but not offensively. as the glass warms the dark fruits come out. Alcohol is well hidden until it kicks you in the ass.

Bottle purchased at Crown Liquors #15, in Fishers, IN. Shared with mreusch. Pours a clear reddish-orange with a thin beige head that collapses instantly to a small island of bubbles at the surface and a ring clinging to the edge of the glass. On the nose are banana, cane sugar, spice (Grains of Paradise, maybe?), mango and light alcohol in the background. Like bananas Foster with Belgian yeasty esters. Medium-bodied, oily-syrupy and "hot", with the alcohol coming forward even more as it warms. While cool, it is a pleasant blend of banana, hard candy and spice, but it becomes cloying and syrupy as it warms. Nice at first, but it becomes way too sweet and alcohol forward as it warms. At $18 a bomber, I would have a really hard time recommending this one. If you get a chance to try it at the brewpub versus buying a bottle, do so. You can buy a sixer of Alpha King with the savings.

In Bomber and on Tap @ FFF. I liked the beer in the bomber, but it was AMAZING on tap. The beer is a opaque orange/amberish with a small and quickly disappearing off-white head. Smell is of sweetness, candy, banana, spices. Taste is quite the same - big time sweetness, maybe cloying for many. Huge sweet and spicy banana flavor and Belgian candi sugar. This is the thickest beer and most syrupy beer I have ever seen than wasn’t a Rus Imp Stout - and it’s still thicker and more syrupy than many of them! The alcoholic bite at the end of this beer is just about pleasant when chilled - but once it warms up to room temp - watch out! I think with some (or a lot of) age this could be much more balanced and perhaps tamed down a bit.

Bomber, with a big thanks to Gregis for sharing! Pours a clear orange amber with the most minimal tan head possible that is gone immediately, no lacing. Aroma is pretty powerful, dominated by banana and spice. Flavor is sweet with lots of banana, spice, and candied sugar. Fairly warming, and a bit over the top and one dimensional for my tastes; wish there was more complexity. This got more difficult to handle as it warmed and became quite unpleasant. Thanks again Greg!

If there were ever a beer with a more appropriate name it would be this one.
On tap at the brewpub. Pours a dark ruby in color. Smell is cloyingly sweet. And when I mean sweet, I mean sweet. My teeth began to hurt just at the smell of this beer. Very different and interesting take on this style. Very sweet, with some banana and dark fruits in the taste. Huge and full on the mouthfeel. One glass is just about too much. I also bought a bomber this weekend and it will have to be shared, too much to drink by oneself.

Finally got to try this beast of a beer. Aroma was fruity with some spice, clove and banana. Taste was HUGE banana, chocolate, spice in the beginning, with a fruity banana finish. slight alcohol warming, but can’t detect the 13%

Never had a sextuple before, and this beer was insane! Full golden body, strong aroma. The alcohol was hidden well in the smell, but upon the taste, it is very prevalent. Very sweet but very strong.
