Head disappears almost immediately after pouring. Very fruity, banana, raisins, hints of clove, plum. Really sweet overall, might make for a good after-dinner beverage. Probably not wise to drink an entire deuce-deuce solo... your liver will never forgive you. chicagodri (1059), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 23, 2007 This is an impressive beer. Fruity aroma powered mainly by banana but also a little bit of cloves. Thin head. The beer packs a punch @ 16%, but it seems so much more smooth and balanced that other brewers’ beers with that much alcohol (for example Dogfish Head). Heavy banana in the flavor but not as much clove, which I like. Tastes a little better as the bottle goes on and the beer warms a little. | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 21, 2007 First thing I noticed was that there was little head especially for a Belgian style beer, the aroma nearly knocked my nose for a loop, like a strong Fruity liqueuer,I thought there was something wrong with this till I read it was 16% ,ok that explains it,taste was a smooth raisin banana, with a little peppery hotness, and a huge alcohol presence. Gets smoother and tastier with each sip. Not as thick as some of the other15 plus ABV’s warming and yummy StFun (534), Indiana, USA

Pours orange and creamy, aroma is something like bannanas. Definte sweet fruit burst in this one, as has been stated previously. Detected clove, mangos and maybe some raisens. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Dec 17, 2007 Bomber via trade with Drewbeerme I believe, shared with cyn. Pours slightly cloudy orange with a pretty nice looking island of a head. It looks like the milky way. Anyway. Nose has strong banana, and clove nose. Alc taste is huge, I never thought this beer had such a massive alcohol % to it. Banana and alc come through huge in this. Its very good but also somewhat insane. I guess I know why Kong is on the bottle. Ohmybock (25), Georgia, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 15, 2007 Updated: Jan 13, 2008I just picked this one up in Chicago at $16.99 for a 22oz bomber...ouch! A little voice inside my head kept saying, "don’t waste your money", but I went ahead and bought one anyway. (I love hoppy beers, but I haven’t been too excited about the other hoppy, and/or high-gravity, and/or expensive 3F beers I’ve purchased.) Additionally, I had previously read some reviews about this one which made me think I might not like it.
Well...It turns out I like this one a lot!
The first thing I noticed was that there was very little "phhhitt" when I popped the cap. Carbonation is low with this bad boy. That’s too bad because more carbonation would certainly help cut the thickness of this brew and improve it. Next, I noticed the aroma which heavily consists of spices (think clove) and bananas. The aroma (and the taste) remind me somewhat of a potent German wheat beer. However, AK is much thicker and sweeter than any German wheat beer I’ve had. Could this be a quadruple weizenbock? If you like the flavors found in weizenbiers or weizenbocks, try this one. There’s a nice, clear, amber color to the beer, but there’s no head (which corresponds with the low carbonation). There’s a bit of hot alcohol character mixed in with the flavor along with an alcohol bite in the finish, but for a beer of this strength, it’s surprisingly drinkable...at least in small sips. The malt and spiciness dominate in this brew with hops taking an almost indistinguishable backseat. I read some other reviews that claimed this beer is sweet and syrupy. That’s somewhat true, but it’s not as over-the-top sweet as a fresh Samichlaus, Thomas Hardy, or JW Lees Harvest (none of which I like when they’re fresh), and it’s nothing like the sickly-sweet Beast Grand Cru and Samael from Avery which went down my drain. However, AK does remind me a bit of Avery’s Reverend, but with a more evident alcohol character and burn. Even though AK is on the "sweet side", I still find it totally drinkable as it stands today. Still, if there was more carbonation, this beer would be even better.
Well, it’s nice to see something quite different being produced by 3F and also something that I (surprisingly) enjoyed a lot. I still think the price doesn’t fit the contents of the bottle, but unlike most other high-priced 3F beers I’ve had, I might actually revisit this one in the future. Until then, I’ll be content drinking The Reverend at 1/3 the price of AK. JohnC (2280), Mission Viejo, California, USA

The first thing that hits you is the aroma. Some banana, some clove, and a few other spices I can’t quite place. The flavor is sweet with a small amount of stickiness. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 3, 2007 650 ml. bottle graciously shared with my wife and I by tjthresh. Pour is orange, copper and ruby - slightly hazy with some floating particulates. More or less flat, with really no head at all. Aroma of Belgian yeastiness, with some cloves and even bananas in the nose. Taste is cloves, big sweet maltiness and some heat in the finish. Candy spiciness jumps and and out. Really big bodied. The heat was pretty well integrated into the taste of this one, and certainly was not out of place. Good thing Tom shared this one, because I am pretty sure he would have drank the whole bottle himself.
