Nice aroma of clove, banana, spice, yeast, and alcohol. This shit was soo hot my nose hairs bursted into flames. Anyway, the taste was the same as the aroma. Got harder to drink as it got warmer. Thich and syrupy. Not a bad brew, just need time to mellow. I drank half and bottled the rest in a 12oz. sliffy (2012), Columbus, Ohio, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 9, 2007 Bottle: Pours a clear amber color with an off white head. Aroma, bubble gum, fruits (bananas) yeast, and spices, brown sugar. Flavor, kinda hot up front, with some cloying sweetness, lots of fruits, yeasty fruity esters, brown sugar and caramel. What a monster, looking forward to seeing how it ages. weeare138 (936), Collegeville, Pennsylvania, USA

Appears a hazy orange with a small with a small white head that quickly fades out. Spotty lacing is left around the glass.
Smell is of peach, bananas, lots of brown sugar, and caramel all over the place.
Taste mimics the aromas but it’s just too darn sweet to enjoy. It’s cloying up front and in desperate need of aging like a fresh wine.
Mouthfeel is estery, super hot of alcohol burn, med-full bodied, with evident abv from the get-go, and some hot spices in there as well. I think this one just needs time...lots of it. sersdf (1000), chicago, Illinois, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 6, 2007 bottle. man, i was strangely generous this last weekend now that i think about it. i paid the cab home, then bought the handle we used to make the bloody mary’s on sunday, then broke this bottle out. well, it was really excellent. the 16% was remarkably well-hidden (behind an enormous wall of sugar). so... they malted the fuck out of this beer and just let the yeast do what it could. i liked it a lot. lots of those belgian esters and whatnot, i didn’t pay attention to specifics... probably not worth $14, but i did enjoy the beer. | 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 9/20 | Nov 4, 2007 Poured from a 22 oz. Clear, rusty orange. Cotton candy and heat in a basic dichotometric aroma. Bananas, clove, bubblegum; heavy yeast presence interacts with the extreme booze to foreshadow something sickly. Very hot flavor, enough almost to singe the mouth, it seems; somewhat floral but completely overpowered by sugar and fusel. Quieted and blithely suffocated hints of christmas tree and banana. Thick, unforgiving, and ugly in the mouth. Hot finishing tones of spiced rum and compost air. The definition of pointless indulgence. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Nov 4, 2007 22oz bottle, courtesy of mj. Thanks, Mike! Pours a hazy, orange-ruby color; pretty oily and viscous; mostly headless. Dense, tropical fruits and bananas and bready notes; plenty of red fruits and sugar. Definitely boozy and viscous mouthfeel: tons of alcoholic sugar and not much else; a bit of banana esters coming through; a 16% beer should not be one-dimensional like this. Lengthy, belgian sugar and banana finish. EithCubes (2171), Indiana, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Nov 2, 2007 Have been sitting on this bomber since release day, but it’s still relatively young. Very sweet Belgian yeast aroma, candis and candy spices, sugar but not over the top. Gentle waft of alcohol, with plums, coriander, pear, raisin citrus, faint banana. Peppery, vinous, very fruity. Rorange body, clear with a densely-bubbled, and tiny-bubbled, creamy tan head. Taste - oh boy!
Initially dry and bready, gentle sweetness actually kicks in after a few ounces, noticeable and warming alcohol but feels more like 8% than 16%. Touch of funk under the huge, complex malt body, which is thick enough to impress, but not thick enough to choke. Smooth and sultry. Light caramel and dark candy, smoothly blended spices and a complimentary role from the hops (which are usually fighting for dominance in a FFF brew). Slightly herby with almost a dash of nutmeg, still under the yeast and spice. And yes, they nail the ever-elusive marshmallow. Aftertaste is disarming and as pleasant as the most refined Belgians I’ve had. Lasting and soothing. Something of a cross between a big Abt and a smooth Weizenbock, with a bit of crème brûlée under the surface. I can see many people complaining about the sweetness here, but it doesn’t taste under-attenuated and it’s a slow-going sipper, anyway. A big boy, the kind of beer you enjoy over six or seven hours, the kind of brew you mention in your journal. mcbackus (755), Merritt Island, Florida, USA
