| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | May 27, 2008 Bottle. Pours an amber orange ruby body. Aroma and flavor is sweet malt with a little bit of fruit, citrus and caramel. This was very warming and yet still in good balance, a sort of evervecent warming and some belgian yeast and candi sugar. I couldnt decide once during this beer if i liked it or if i just liked getting drunk off it. Skyview (4045), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 26, 2008 On draught at the brewery’s tap room during Dark Lord Days ’08. Pours a semi-hazy reddish brown brew with a thick creamy beige head that has some good retention and lacing. Aroma of banana esters, cloves, a touch of bubble gum and caramel malt. Taste is medium to full bodied, light carbonated with flavors of caramel malt, banana esters, a touch of raisin and plenty of alcohol. Finish is slightly metallic from the high alcohol but has a terrific aftertaste if caramel malts, banana, a touch of tart cherry and some honey. Gotta do this one again! | 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | May 25, 2008 On tap. Dark reddish brown color. Smell of hops, brown sugar, malt, fruit, alcohol, caramel, spice and bananas. WOW!!!!
This is great! Taste of the same. This really warms you up. Overload on the hops, just the way I like it. 17thfloor (1480), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 24, 2008 Pours a clear glowing rich reddish brown with a medium thick creamy tan head. Aroma is strong of ripe banana, bubble-gum, alcohol and lesser notes of raisins, toffee and spice. Smells and tastes more like a strong German doppelbock than anything made in Belgium. Reminds me heavily of Schloss Eggenberg Samichlaus. Super sweet, rich and syrupy. The alcohol compliments the flavor rather than working against it. Toasted bananas foster, caramel, honey, spice, huge nutty maltiness. Sticky. Begs to be aged... and not just for a year or two... this stuff could survive a nuclear war. satan165 (577), River Grove, Illinois, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | May 16, 2008 Updated: Aug 21, 2008booze is very hard to get thru. ive had 11% beers which is relatively close in terms of ABV yet it was very hidden. this brew makes no bones about how strong it is. i enjoy imperial IPAs and porters and tripels but this it just too strong. the only subtle flavor i detect once in a while is a bit of dried fruit which then alternates in the next tasting with raw unprocessed booze. mouth feel is syrupy and slick and color is interesting but the flavor is just too over the top. no malt, no hops, just jet fuel. no thank you.
EDIT: worthy of note is the fact that this beer was cellared 2 years at lush where it was purchased which might have influenced its overall intensity and hard-to-drinkness Lumpy (1802), Carrollton, Texas, USA

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 9, 2008 Bottle, thanks to JohnC. Beautiful amber-orange with a nice white head. Aroma is sweet, fruity with candy & light spice. Malt characters are nicely presented, caramel with brown sugar, some banana and some belgiany esters but nicely subdued. Sweet, medium body with a strong warming. I really, really like this beer.
