President, I think Segretti and his boys have a good idea. We know, of
course, where all the Washington Post reporters hang out for drinks
after work. They think some friends in the brewing industry could come
up with a beer that would look like any other beer, but would be much
higher in alcohol, say around 15 per cent. Most people wouldn’t realize
the deception until they’d already had too much. Once that happens, it

Flash ahead over 30 years. No one knows how much further "Operation Drunk as a Skunk" might have gone, but it seems Nic has found the recipe and made it into Alpha Kong! The pourer warned me that she’s seen a lot of drain pours with this, and suggested I should try only half a glass. I agreed, and was handed something deceptively light in color. It definitely had a big sweet smell, and of course no head could hope to stand up long in this brew. taste was thick and sticky, like fermented Karo syrup. Somewhere in this muddle is a Belgian blend of fruit flavors, but there’s also a big graininess. I couldn’t find the hops at first, but then once the coating had cleared from my tongue, there was a residual bitterness. Big ups for just finally wrestling this beast to a tap but you know what? Your friends who drink Bud won’t like this. Your sister won’t like this there’s a chance you won’t like this. But if you’ve near a place where this is pouring, you know you gotta try it to say you did!
BrewCzar (23), St Louis, Missouri, USA Jul 10, 2008 Bottle pours hazy orange with a thin white head. Sweet floral aroma, malty, pear/apple. Intense sweet flavors of light fruits, pine, malts, clove, and caramel. Overwhelms the palate with greatness. probably a bit sweet for a Belgian, but still a great beer. cherr (162), Rochester, New York, USA Jul 4, 2008 I have had this beer several times. You really need to get a few guys togeither and just sip it out of 8 oz glasses. It pours rather thick. The smell is sweet with apricot and babana and clove. The taste is very seet and full. Overall probably my favorite beer right now. radiomgb (1710), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada Jul 2, 2008 Orange-copper in colour, thin but lasting off-white coloured head, light patchy lacing. The aroma was of nail polish remover, caramel sweetness, some toffee and alcohol. The flavour was creamy, alcoholic, very sweet, floral, syrupy. Alcoholic mouthfeel, medium body, mild carbonation. Finishes very sweet with a huge alcohol punch.
This is just crazy. There is so much alcohol in this that it just takes over everything. It will need a lot of time to mellow out this.
650ml bottle shared by beerhugger, thanks Steve.
Opened on February 2, 2008.
No date.
patrick767 (1377), fort wayne, Indiana, USA Jun 21, 2008 bottle - Pours lightly hazy orange with a thin head. The aroma is of sweet malt, some dark fruits, and some alcohol which one would expect given the high abv. The flavor is of sweet, syrupy caramel malt, a touch of yeast, some dark fruits, and of course the alcohol. Noticeable hops presence is light, which seems to be common with these extremely high gravity beers. It’s certainly an interesting beer. Crosling (1598), Loveland, Colorado, USA Jun 14, 2008 Appears autumn colored in the glass, a fire-like orange, with a small, quicky diminishing foam. Nose of caramel, light and dark fruits, as well as a touch of booze. Incredibly flavorful and well balanced between sweetness and bitterness. Notes of Banana, pear skins, golden raisin, cinnamon, apples and pastries, with loads of caramel. Alcohol hidden well, of course I have a special palate in that I hardly ever taste alcohol in beer and this is no different. Nice mouth feel.
