festival of barrel aged beers 2004. hoppy, dry and bitter. sounds great. tastes great. aroma is hoppy, the color is cloudy amber. the barrel seems to have added a mellow smokeyness.

Barrel Aged Festival 04 at Goose Island: Dreadnaught aged in oak barrels. The wood cask mellowed out the ol’ bitter ’Naught, but did not tame it. I loved this stuff and hope to run into it at this years fest.

FOBAB 2004. Very hoppy spicy nose. Pours murky orange with a great head and some lacng. Great hop character with caramel and some vanilla notes. Very nice beer.

Perfect addition of woody character to just slightly tame the amazing hoppy character. Added a new dimension of caramel, vanilla and a touch of smoke. Soft nose for such a high amount of IBUs.

FOBAB 2004: Spicey nose. Some vegetable flavors as well. Mostly dominated by the ever present hops. Slight alcohol burn at the end. Really sticks to the palate. Crazy hop flavors. What you’d expect from FFF.

FOBAB 2004: (It was spelled Alphanaut in the program.) Tasted much like the great Dreadnaught, but the oak aging seemed to blunt the bitterness, but not the flavor, of the hops somewhat. Plenty of piney hopping, a bit of grapefruit and a small reminder that there’s some malt in there. This drank real smoothly... so I sampled it a couple of times.

hoppy as can be, had this at the aged festival in chicago and enjoyed it even with the enormous head that came along with it. was hoptacular and little else, but definitly amazing on all edges. piney, citrusy, woody, with some caramel, vanilla mixed in with it all.
