Commercial Description:
This complex double India pale ale has an intense citrus and floral hop aroma balanced by a velvety malt body which has been augmented with lactose milk sugar. With this different take on an IPA we have brewed an ale that is both pleasing to drink and, once again, “not normal.” 100 IBU 9.5%ABV

Bottle. Very interesting beer. Pours a orangish color wtih a big light head. Aroma is full of citrus(orange) and lots of sweet caramel notes. Flavor is interesting and body is really creamy. Hops are noticeable but with more orange flavor than usual and the body is beefed up with the lactose. I liked it quite a bit.

2009 Bottle - Thanks shawnm213 & NobleSquirrel! - Pours cloudy ornage with a large, lasting off white head...aroma is massive citrus and floral hops, sticky malt...flavour is as expected up front, intense hop presence, and is quickly followed by a sticky, cloying malty presence...creamy on the end, well hidden alcohol, quite interesting...

Bottle sample at Muckfest 2009 Day 2. Semi-opaque orange pour with a thin white head. Orange hop aroma balanced by grainy malt. Creamy malt body up front with citrusy hops, brown sugar and a creamy finish.

Bomber. Pours a creamy, off-white head - 1.5 finger width. Amber body - clear and bubbly. Big time hop aroma - like I climbed a vine of cascade, washed my hands with centennial, and then stuck my face in a bag of amarillo. Usually I’m put off by an overabundance of hop aroma, but in this beer it’s seductive. Hop aroma (citrus, grapefruit, floral, pine) dominates any malt aroma, but I’m ok with it here. Flavor is a combination of caramel malts and lactose sweetness wiped away by aggressive hop bitterness. Medium body with somewhat lively carbonation. Alcohol is well hidden. A bit too resinous for my preference, but I guess that’s the price one pays for such a lovely aroma. Overall a confusing, somewhat weird beer, but delicious. A little rough around the edges, but promising.

Bomber - hop bomb! Aroma is big citrus, pine, grapefruit, mango. Sticky and perfumed, floral hop potpourri. Lovely funk. Pale orange pour, clear body with a sudsy, rocky head. Hugely hoppy taste, big time bitterness is dominated and pacified by the lactose, end result is a sort of balanced, resin-soaked, bone-dry aftertaste after a sugary main body. Alcohol is also obscured in this process, wouldn’t have guessed over seven. Taste also has tea leaves and pineapple, and something resembling juniper or spruce, though this is, as kuphish says, a lot like sticking your nose into a bag of fresh pellet hops. Medium velvety body. A wonderful experiment, very strange!

Bottle from Binny’s South Loop. Pours amber with a huge sudsy off white head, spotty lacing. Aroma of pine, honey, and floral hops. Medium bodied with an oily and almost sticky texture. Wow, this is pretty complex. Caramel and doughy malts provide a backrop to a pleasant but assertive bitterness, with notes of pine, orange, and grapefruit. Slightly above normal attenuation (which is perfect for me). The lactose adds an interesting character to this, almost like it amplifies the dryness and juiciness. Sweet and hoppy finish, with lingering resiny goodness. This is very good. I would GLADLY drink this again.
