Commercial Description:
This complex double India pale ale has an intense citrus and floral hop aroma balanced by a velvety malt body which has been augmented with lactose milk sugar. With this different take on an IPA we have brewed an ale that is both pleasing to drink and, once again, “not normal.” 100 IBU 9.5%ABV

Tap. Dark orange color with a smaller off-white head. Big aromas of orange and grapefruit. Hints of milk caramel and dough. Flavors of sharp citrus and pith. Malt sneaks in with a dextrose sweetness. Resin in the middle sharpens the feel and flavor. Even with the sharpness, the brew is rather sticky. Big and assertive. If I had more than the snifter, I think it would rated lower. A whole bomber would be difficult to quaff.

An extravagant thanks goes out to beerman6686 Dan for this special brew! Had the pleasure of sampling this at the 7/9/2009 Pittsburgh RB tasting extravaganza (PGHRBEXT) at the Sharp Edge Creekhouse. It will be a long time, if ever I see a spread of bottles like I did there. I am not good enough for the beers that were that we served! For example, how about this beer: appocolypse cow! Some hop aroma, just mildy. Cloudy pale color. Triple hop impact greets the tongue followed by a tad of lactose sweetness. Way too hoppy for this lager lover but a welcomed beer tasting experience. Hey, at least I can say I tried it. Bitter long hop medicinal over the top finish. Not too much to say except this stuff is on style. If there is any carbonation in there, I can’t detect it because of the shock to my taste buds. Rototilling across the surface of my tongue is this mouth coating liquid. Just rate em as how I like em, I’m not expert enough to rate by style. Go get em cowboy! Thanks Dan for a chance to try this rude crude awfully on style bitter hoppy drink! Now my taste buds are ruined for the rest of the beers! WEW

This one poured a a light orange color with a white head. Aroma was the nice strong Three C’s hops three floyds aroma, but with a very interesting milky sweetness as well from the lactose sugar. Flavor was huge upfront hops, nice with citrus and pine notes with a sweet sugary finish melding with the lingering bitterness as well.

Not normal but wonderfully so. Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured a viscous murky apricot color with a small white head that lingered. The aroma was full and strong with sweet pine and fruity hops. The flavor was tangy, sweet, bitter and full of piney and fruity hops. The finish was long, tangy, fruity and sourish with a thick and full mouthfeel and sweet hoppy residuals that would not leave. Excellent.

Had this one at the RB Pittsburgh tasting. This has no business working, but by dammit, it totally does. Very hoppy with that distinct FFF scent. Good, odd, but GOOD taste, which is exactly what you expect from a DIPA with lactose, except...good.

Bottle via trade. Aroma is sweet malt, light fruits, and citrus hops. Flavor is sweet malt, honey, and orangey/pineappley hops. Fairly viscous and smooth on the palate. Really good overall.

Bottle. Aroma predominantly of various juicy citrus notes. Flavor lusciously bitter up front before the sweet malt/lactose kicks in, balancing it, but still allowing the big IBU to shine through. However, despite not covering up the IBU (thankfully), the sugar did become wearing for me as I made my way through the glass to the point I really didn’t care about the hoppy goodness anymore, I just didn’t want the sugar. Very good at first, but didn’t hold up for me.

Bottle thanks to FlssmrBrewAlum. Pours a hazy orange with a small white head. Aroma of grassy hops, sweet citrus, bitter orange rind, and tropical fruits. Flavor initially of sweet hop resin, citrus, and light fruits. Rather sweet from the lactose and definitely very smooth in the palate. I quite liked the addition of lactose actually. Very enjoyable. 8/4/8/4/14 (3.8/5)
