Poured a hazy, deep amber color with an average, off white head that reduced rather quickly to a film and foamy ring, but left some lasting streaks, ribbons, and spots of lacing. The aroma was big, with citrus, pineapple, and sweet, mid-toned fruit as apricot and peach. The flavor continued these, adding some pine, assertive hop bitterness, and rich malt, which gave the beer an altogether thick, full mouthfeel. A maltier cousin of the Dreadnaught, typically FFF potent and hoppily enjoyable.

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Dec 27, 2009 Another solid Double IPA from FFF (shocking). Pours orange with a thin head. Had it at the FFF brewpub. Strong aroma of pine, citrus, a ton of grapefruit. Good body, the 9% ABV was well hidden. Tasted a little slick, very well done. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 18, 2009 Draft at Bavarian Lodge, 11 oz. goblet, $5.50. Deep orange IIPA color, with a ring of white foam stubbornly hanging on while I dealt with a taste of St. Bernardus Xmas first. DAMN hoppy smell: a little pine cone and pineapple, and a lot of fresh cut grass and pluck hop cones. Taste is as big a hop bomb as I’ve had probably since GTMW. Cascade, I just guess, green and plentiful. Malts are light in color, this may be closer to an imperial blond ale. Still a bit thick and sticky. It actually manages some type of harmony as I work toward the middle of the glass, and continues to knock me out still. 3Faveryrogue (112), Aslip, Illinois, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 17, 2009 Wow. Thought I rated this from mobile while sitting @ the pub. I always like to be part of the 1st 10 ratings of a fresh brew. *Sigh*
A - Smells juicy, high-grade dank, pine, and tropical fruit.
A - Dark bust mostly clear orange-amber pour. Off-white head
F - Nice malt background. Citrus, pine, and fruity sticky sweetness, which subdues, but doesn’t quite balance. Not always a bad thing.
P - Impressive bitter. 100 IBUs still doesn’t seem quite sufficient to a hophead at times. If I hadn’t driven that day, I may have ordered another one. Drinkable. I didn’t consider it boozy. Good body, carbonation. Slick, if anything.
O - Its been SOO long since I’ve had a dreadnaught, I couldn’t compare the 2. Would have made a great side-by-side. Hope this one is back on sometime for a revisit. Good DIPA. IIPA. Whatever. Hipsters. kramer (2510), Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 24, 2009 Tap @ FFF. Pours a hazy copper body with a creamy tight bubbled white head. Huge citrus nose with a hefty caramel malt base. A touch of alcohol noticeable. The flavor is hugely bitter, but not harsh at all, really well hidden alcohol as well. Thick sweet caramel backbone. Chewy full body with nice fizzy carbonation that cuts through the thickness well. Pretty warming on the finish. Big and good. I like it better than Dreadnaught for sure. ajm (950), Los Angeles, California, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Nov 22, 2009 Tap at the brewpub. This is really nice. Nose is a bit uninspiring (tart hops, fruit skin, maybe a little grain) but flavor is very smooth and great! Orange, grapefruit, honey-flavored hops, nice creamy texture. Very good - gives Dread a run for its money. cexshun (82), Portage, Indiana, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 14, 2009 Tap a FFF. Pours a dark orange, slightly hazy. Tall, foamy white head stays forever. Aroma is heavy on pine hops. I mean HEAVY, very one dimensional aroma. Flavor is like sucking on pine needles. Strong bitter finish,. Surprisingly sweet. Decent malt backbone, but this is a flat out hop bomb. Strange floral dance happening in the middle that is super exciting. Oily mouth feel. Very heavy. Carbonation levels are spot on and silky smooth. Overall, an excellent beer. Would like some more malt to balance it out more. awiseman01 (379), Indianapolis, Indiana, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 12, 2009 Tap at FFF. Pours cloudy burnt orange with white foamy head. Fresh, juicy orange and hop overload. Orange taste dominates and is very, very good. Nice offering, would be interesting to see if this makes it to the bottling line.
