Aroma: Hops up front, fruitiness, caramel, soup, pine, lightly floral, oranges/mandarines. Taste: Hops, grape, pine, fruitiness, caramel, sweetness, soup, pine, alcohol. Bitter finish. Creamy mouthfeel. Very american. Not very complex. I expected more considering the hype. Rciesla (3719), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 31, 2009 Bottled from Bierkoning, Amsterdam. Orange/amber coloured, small but lasting head. Very hoppy nose, pine, nice. Very harsh flavour, alcoholic, bitter, complexity of the aroma is nowhere to be found. Fair, but lacking complexity considered its gravity. And pretty damn expensive for what you get. nqualls (1429), Nashville, Tennessee, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 21, 2009 Source: 2007, 22 oz bottle in a trade via illinismitty. Glass: Gulden Drak Tulip. Appearance: Ruddy orange/amber pour with a thin tan head that quickly dissipated. Aroma: Fruit, sweet malt, sherry, a hint of brown sugar, and a lot of alcohol. Flavor: Flavor was surprising simple...but good. Dark fruits, caramel malt and warming alcohol. Palate: Full bodied with soft carbonation and a chewy mouthfeel. Overall: I didn’t think this was great, but it was definitely above par.

Pours a delicious fat golden amber with off white head. The aroma is complex with notes of caramel, apricot, apple, spicy hops, citrusy hops, and piney hops. The flavor is equally delicious, pummeling my tongue with caramels, fruits, alcohol, and hops. The mouthfeel is thick and sticky but great. Overall, this is very well balanced and delicious. Another win for the Floyds and Co. sigma23 (235), , Maine, USA

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | May 13, 2009 Did another tasting of Barley Wine style ales tonight. This won out compared to the Mikkeller and Dieu du Ciel. I liked the palate - thicker pour like I would expect - more viscous than the other 2, silky on the tongue - minimal up-front bitterness, just soft and warm. Almost a roasted, carmel, nose. Decent head, and a brightness of middle that was fundamentally apricot. Nice, soft, finish as well. I prefer serving at room temp. My favorite is still Bigfoot, so will need to do a side by side tomorrow. ChrisThomson (405), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
